On Purim, (March 15 and 16, 2014), Rav Moshe Sternbuch was sharing secrets with his students during his Purim seuda in Israel.
Rav Sternbuch said: “Purim is a time when we reveal secrets...But even though I promised not to reveal any secrets, I’m still obliged to reveal one particular secret, inasmuch as Rabbi Yitzhak Haber, ZTL, the student of Rav Chaim Yitzhak Volozhiner, who heard it passed down directly from the senior students of the Vilna Gaon, already revealed it.”
Rav Sternbuch continued: “And this is what he said: ‘When you hear that the Russians are subduing the city of Krim [the Crimea], then you’ll know that the Geula has begun. And here we see that last week, the Russians subdued the Crimea, and that the whole world is now in an uproar over this. But according to the tradition that we have from the Vilna Gaon, this is a sign of the ‘time of Moshiach’.
Rav Sternbuch then concluded that the Vilna Gaon had said this about the city of Constantinople, which today is known as Istanbul, and added that if you heard this was happening, you should get your Shabbos finery ready to wear, because the Moshiach could come at any minute.
Definitely something to keep an eye on, over the next few days and weeks.
