“Protesting Israel's inaction, hundreds of demonstrators led by top Reform, Conservative rabbis break through security barrier and enter Kotel plaza, where ultra-Orthodox [cunningly dressed as the Israeli police force – RL] await."
Hot on the heels of a quick visit to the Palestinian Leadership in Ramallah for some encouragement and tactics training, (see THIS) Reform ‘rabbi’ Mahmoud Jacobs and his fellow terrorists yesterday launched a violent demonstration at the Kotel – whilst claiming to be the victims of police brutality, when the police didn’t just give them what they wanted, in clear violation of Israeli law.
This from Ha’aretz:
“The procession was called to protest the failure of the Israeli government to follow through with its commitment to create a new egalitarian space at the Western Wall, where men and women can pray together. Netanyahu had appealed to the organizers on Tuesday to refrain from demonstrating, but to no avail.”
But these brave freedom fighters weren’t about to let the ‘Israeli Goliath’ beat them down, and force them to keep the democratically-decided law, no sirree:
This from Ha’aretz:
“The Western Wall was a scene of pandemonium and unprecedented violence on Wednesday morning, after Reform and Conservative Jewish leaders broke through security barriers with Torah scrolls in their arms, in defiance of the ultra-Orthodox authorities [who were dressed as policemen - RL] who run the holy site.”
In a bizarre twist, Mahmoud Jacobs claimed that the ultra orthodox (who are always to blame for every problem in Israel, if you dig deep enough…) dressed up as Israeli security personnel, manhandled him and threatened him with pepper spray.
But it was clearly all everyone else’s fault!! And nothing to do at all with reform and conservative ‘rabbis’ acting like violent, uncouth wanna-be terrorists.
This from Ha’aretz:
“Once they pushed past the security personnel, the Torah-bearing rabbis were confronted by ultra-Orthodox protestors, mainly very young boys, who also tried to push them back. Numerous scuffles and fistfights broke out. Many of the rabbis carrying the Torah scrolls, including women, were physically bruised.
“Police stationed at the site did not intervene to stop the violence [being committed by the reform marchers against the Israeli police - RL]. Instead, they observed and even filmed the scene. “The fact that there was no bloodshed was a miracle,” said Noa Sattath, a Reform rabbi and director of the Israel Religious Action Center, the advocacy arm of the Reform movement in Israel….”
“After being pushed and shoved by security personnel [who clearly were just ‘ultra orthodox people dressed up as policemen – RL] at the Western Wall, Rabbi Andy Sacks, director of the Rabbinical Assembly of the Conservative movement in Israel, appeared visibly shaken up. “Those who seek to take Torah scrolls from our arms will not be forgiven until they do serious tshuva [repentance],” he said…” (sic....;-)
The article in Ha’aretz continues:
“Many of those who witnessed the scene at the Western Wall this morning described it as a game-changer. “This should be a wake-up call to the prime minister that it’s high time he followed through with the government decision,” Sattath said.
“After this, there is no going back to what was,” said another rabbi who asked not to be identified.
“When asked why organizers of the event had defied Netanyahu’s call to abstain from demonstrations, Sattath replied: “We have refrained for 10 months, and we’ve seen that it yields no results. We are sick and tired of waiting for promises that are not realized.”
All the quotes from Ha’aretz are as reported (with my observations in square brackets). Here’s what I predict: the Reform and Conservative leaders will next come back to the Kotel carrying stones and Molotov cocktails.
Then, when that doesn’t work to force their will on the Israeli public – who are overwhelmingly in favour of keeping things exactly how they are at the wall – they’ll be back with knives, and then semi-automatic weapons – all the time claiming they are doing everything for ‘peace’ and ‘unity’ and out of the highest motives of freedom and justice.
(Er, does this sound familiar to anyone else?)
When that doesn’t work, they’ll move on to trying to launch GRAD missiles at the Kotel – because if they can’t have it, then no-one else can, either.
But here’s what the Reform and Conservative people don’t understand about the State of Israel and Israeli politicians: anyone who threatens the government’s grip on controlling the country, and controlling the State, is elevated up to ‘Public Enemy Number 1’.
The State of Israel is run by a bunch of crazy people who are completely allergic to any true notions of civil rights, democratic rule, or playing the game by ‘fair rules’. If the Israeli establishment played fair, we’d have had a proper, frum government for the last 10 years already.
As it is, anyone who challenges their control of the country will be summarily squashed – even if previously, they were very close allies.
This stuff with reform and the secular government (who knows that if they give in to the 0.005% of ‘reform’ people who want egalitarian stuff at the Kotel, the other 99.99995% of the country will vote them out of office faster than you can say ‘Reform Intifada’) is reminding me of what happened with Germany and Russia in WWII.
Once Hitler’s Germany decided to turn on its former ally, Stalin’s Russia, they effectively started to lose the war. Russia came out of WWII marginally better than the Nazis, but still lost millions of Russian soldiers defending the Russian Front.
In its own way, I think something similar is starting to play out here, too.
In Ben Gurion airport, there’s a huge sign up proudly advertising the fact that Zionism is now 120 years old….And we know what that means.
And the State of Israel is celebrating its 70th birthday soon. And we know what that means.
Things are winding down.
The good guys just have to sit on the sidelines, and watch Germany and Russia slog it out until the bitter end.
Let the games begin!
