Now, it's hilarious (because we finally figured out the cover, and BH I will unveil it shortly) - but a couple of days ago, when I had seven covers to choose from with 'Fatima in a hijab' as the star of the show, it did nothing to help my mood. Did you know that if you search for 'Jewish housewife' on shutterstock, or even just 'Jewish woman' it comes back either with the crazies from WoW replete with their tefillin (in the wrong place...) and tallisim; or semi-naked model wannabes cooking latkes?
So, when I explained the idea of 'modest' dressing and wearing a headscarf, this is what came back.
If I ever write a novel where a Jewish heroine goes deep undercover in Isawiya or Silwan, then this will do nicely!
In the meantime, I hope it makes you smile, or even laugh out loud for five minutes (like my husband did when he first clapped eyes on it.) I mean, I know I'm half moroccan and all, but my Arab genes don't quite stretch that far.
