So, there’s an interesting discussion that’s been happening in the comments section under the last post (and btw, I’m actually so pleased that people with so many different viewpoints feel comfortable enough to post their ideas up on the blog, in a respectful way that isn’t dissing anyone else, Baruch Hashem.)
But the basic discussion is this:
How can we await Moshiach every single day, as we’re told we have to do by #12 of the Rambam’s 13 Principles of Faith, without getting so hung up on a specific date that it risks utterly ruining our emuna if that doesn’t happen?
As always, there is really no clear-cut or black-and-white answer, so let’s try to figure out together what the sources are actually saying, and how to apply that in reality in our own lives, because there is also a huge difference between ‘theoretical’ Judaism and real, live, sincere Judaism.
So many people are excellent at the former, and actually far less excellent at really applying the theories of what we’re all supposed to do, and how we’re supposed to actually do it, especially to themselves.
So tachlis, how can we balance waiting for Moshiach and eagerly anticipating him every single day, as the Rambam tells us we’re meant to be doing, without getting caught up in pointless false predictions and prophecies about ‘the end’, which is a particularly xtian past-time?
(On that note, I just have to say something: a few people, including my usually very switched-on brother, have recently sent me links to ‘Breaking Israel News’ with different stories about prophecies and predictions about the end of days. I get a really, really bad vibe from the stuff on that website, probably the xtian undercurrent that’s going on there is warping all the authentic Torah sources to its own end. Caveat emptor.)
Here’s what Rav Natan has to say, in Tzaddik (527):
“A number of leading Torah figures have made calculations of the time of the coming of Moshiach. In our own period a number of people have made specific claims about when Moshiach would come. The same has happened in previous generations. The Rebbe disagreed completely.
“He said that any date people gave for the coming of the Moshiach would certainly not be the date he would come. There are passages in the Holy Zohar and elsewhere cursing all who make such calculations. For “The Son of David will only come when no-one is paying attention.” (Sanhedrin 97a).
“At the moment, people are saying Moshiach will come in the year 5600 (1839-40) and they claim that the Zohar contains illusions to this. The truth is that he will definitely not come then. He may come before 5600, or he may come after. But in 5600 itself he will certainly not come.
There is no doubt about this, seeing as people are expecting him them.
“One thing is certain: any date someone gives on the basis of calculations as the date of his coming will quite definitely not be when he comes.
“The Moshiach will indeed come quickly and without delay in our days, but it will be when no one is paying any attention whatsoever. No-one would have dreamt that this would be when he would come – and suddenly he will come. Speedily in our days, Amen.”
There is lots of food for thought here. Before we continue, we should know that some of the people who have made calculations (and that word is crucial, I’ll explain why in a minute) about when Moshiach will come include Torah giants like the Vilna Gaon and closer to our times, Rav Yehuda Ashlag.
So this is not an error that ‘dumb’ or ‘unbelieving’ people make, far from it.
Rav Ashlag’s teachings were picked up and warped by the Kabbalah Centre, and all that interesting stuff on the kabbalahsecrets website is another offshoot of this warped, Kabbalah Centre / quasi-xtian obsession with calculating the end. (There’s that word again.)
So Moshiach is not going to come Succot 5779. How do I know? Simple – Rav Natan said: any date someone gives on the basis of calculations as the date of his coming will quite definitely not be when he comes. He may come before Succot, he may come after, but according to Rav Natan, on Succot 5779 itself, he definitely is NOT coming.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN, ‘CALCULATIONS’?
So now, let’s try to dig down a bit more, and to clarify a bit more about what’s going on, because in recent years, so many of our own huge tzaddikim have made clear statements about our generation being the time of Moshiach and geula.
Are we really saying they don’t know the Gemara in Sanhedrin, God forbid? Or that they’re going against what they’re meant to be doing, but saying what they’re saying, God forbid?
That simply doesn’t make sense. So clearly, something else is going on here. I’m going to bring together a bunch of quotes from One in a Generation Volume II that I think will shed some real light on the subject, and then I’ll sum things up at the end.
MOSHIACH WAS PREDICTED TO COME IN 2012
The Jewish year 5772 (corresponding to 2011-2012) had long been touted as a very likely date for the redemption of the Jewish people to begin. The late Rav Yitzchak Kaduri had publicly stated on a number of occasions that Moshiach would come during Av 5772.
Rav Yitzchak Shlomo Zilberman had also publicized the tradition he’d received that the Vilna Gaon had hinted that 5772 was the year of Keitz, or End of Days, as had other descendants of the Vilna Gaon’s students.
Meanwhile, Rav Yosef Scheinberger told over the story he’d heard directly from Rav Grosnas, one of the Chofetz Chaim’s students, that the Chofetz Chaim had said in the year 5692 that it wouldn’t take more than another 80 years for Moshiach to come — again, bringing us to 5772.
Over the last decade, an enormous amount of sources from the Zohar and other holy works, gematrias and anecdotal traditions were amassed, all pointing to the year 5772 as the year of redemption. As more and more of this information came to light and was publicized, the religious public waited with bated breath to see what will be in 5772.
(Guess what: Moshiach didn’t come then.)
MOSHIACH WAS PREDICTED TO COME IN 2014
As 5774 (2014) wound down, so many different Jewish groups and religious leaders seemed to be talking about Moshiach.
Rav Chaim Kanievsky is on record as saying at this time: “The Moshiach is no longer waiting at the entrance, he’s already been given permission to open the door!” And when he was asked specifically what he meant, he replied, “It’s possible that we’ve reached the end of the exile.”
When Operation Protective Edge began in July 2014, the Milkman, Rav Chaim Cohen, made the following statement: “They informed me from Heaven that the redemption process started today. Am Yisrael is going to be redeemed. No one knows how long it will take, dear brothers, but know that the complete redemption process (geulah sheleimah) has begun, and because of this, the troubles are not going to cease in coming.”
Meanwhile, the kabbalist Rav Dovid Chaim Stern from Bnei Brak told his students in the autumn of 2014 that the situation was only going to get worse from day to day, and that only Moshiach could solve the problem.
(Moshiach didn’t come then, either.)
MOSHIACH WAS PREDICTED TO COME IN 2015
Purim time, 2015, Rav Dov Kook of Tiveria said about Rav Berland’s exile: “There’s some profound siyatta d’Shmaya going on. He’s going to come and redeem us, and when he comes, Moshiach will come too.”
As 5775 continued, the feeling of impending doom that had enveloped the Jewish people (and the world more generally) continued to deepen.
Many of the Gedolei Hador put out messages at this time, including the following one from Rav Chaim Kanievsky, which was publicized around Pesach 5775 (April 2015) by the famous darshan and mashgiach, Rav Chizkiyahu Mishkovsky.
Rav Mishkovsky made the following comments while he was speaking at a conference organized by Lev L’Achim:
“Today, we find ourselves at one of the most critical moments for the Jewish people,” Rav Mishkovsky announced. “One of the close relatives of our teacher and Torah giant, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, recently came to visit him, and the ‘prince of Torah’ [i.e. Rav Chaim Kanievsky] told him: ‘Go and announce to Klal Yisrael that we are at the time of ‘the footsteps of Moshiach,’ and that Moshiach is at the threshold, and the only possibility of surviving this time is through Torah and gemilus chassidim.’”
(Moshiach didn’t come then, either.)
MOSHIACH IS PREDICTED TO COME IN 2016
The prophecy in Zechariah speaks of all the soldiers of the nations gathering around Israel, and as 5776 began, it seemed that prophecy was about to come true.
A video of a secular teenage boy who’d had a clinical death, and who had apparently been shown some violent scenes in Heaven relating to the imminent coming of Moshiach, went viral across Israel, with hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Among the many things the teenage boy said was that the IDF would only be able to stand up against its enemies for two days, and that Israel was about to be conquered by literally hundreds of thousands of foreign soldiers. So many of the Youtube rabbis went crazy about all these 'predictions'. Guess what?
Moshiach didn’t come then, either.
The local makolet guy started wearing a kippa and laying his tefillin after he saw that video, around Rosh Hashana 5776. By the end of the year, when Moshiach hadn’t shown up and ‘armageddon’ hadn’t kicked off, as predicted, he took it off again.
THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH PREDICTIONS BASED ON CALCULATIONS
So we can see, ‘predictions’ about Moshiach coming aren’t always helpful. But there’s a different between trying to CALCULATE the end, with all sorts of fancy gematrias and kabbalistic ideas, and between actually KNOWING that we’re at the end.
And I think what is going on now, with Rav Kanievsky, and the Milkman, and Rav Kook, and Rav Berland, is that they actually KNOW we are at the end, just Moshiach hasn’t been revealed yet.
To be clear, that could mean that Moshiach has actually come, that the true tzaddikim already know who he is and that he’s here, but that we haven’t yet merited for him to be revealed yet – which means no-one is making calculations about anything. They are simply referring to a factual occurrence that they are aware of, but that other people don’t know about.
Here’s some quotes to give us an idea about what our job actually is, at this period of time:
WE HAVE TO OWN UP TO OUR OWN FLAWS, INSTEAD OF POINTING FINGERS AT OTHERS
Rav Berland once said: “People think that Moshiach can come without prayer. That a person can simply travel to Uman, press a button, and Moshiach will appear. He’ll be there at the tziyun, and just needs to press a certain secret button, and then Moshiach will appear.
Moshiach can’t come until we do true teshuvah with a truly broken heart, and have true shmiras einayim!
“It’s time to cry out, ‘We are guilty!’ and then Moshiach will really come, and Moshiach will be revealed. Moshiach wants to be revealed at every moment. Motzoei Shemittah — this is the time that Moshiach needs to be revealed.”
The Rav concluded that all the wars, the intifada and the dangers that will accompany the coming of the Moshiach are only to get people to wake up and do teshuvah, so that we’ll cry out “We are guilty! That’s it,” he said. “That’s all we need to do.”
ATTENTION, ALL LITVAKS: WANTING MOSHIACH ALSO APPLIES TO YOU
Rav Yehezkel Levenstein, ztl, the former mashgiach ruchani (spiritual guide) of the Mir yeshiva, wrote in his book Or Yehezkel (7) the following words about the importance of believing in, and hoping for, the coming of Moshiach.
“Emuna (belief) in the coming redemption is one of our fundamental obligations. And not just a grudging, low level of emuna; the Rambam writes that: “A person is obligated to stand and wait for the coming of Moshiach, and anyone who doesn’t wait [i.e. anticipate Moshiach’s coming] is a heretic.
“And even though the whole of the nation of Israel believes in and recognizes the [idea of the] coming of the Moshiach, there is still an obligation to wait for it, and to anticipate it actually happening, and anyone who stops anticipating [the coming of Moshiach], even for just an hour, we see from this that they are not a believer.
“Once a person really expects and yearns for the coming of the Melech Moshiach (King Moshiach), then any of the occurrences happening in the world appear to him to be a hint, or connected with the [imminent] redemption, and will cause him to think that maybe, the Melech Moshiach is truly on the threshold [of being revealed].
“It should be underlined that people don’t see the signs of redemption because they don’t think about it all, or reflect on the matter [of Moshiach coming]. I remember how the Chofetz Chaim, ztl, used to wait for it, and connect everything to the geula (redemption).”
Elsewhere, Rav Levenstein returns to the subject, and adds: “The Rambam already wrote that anyone who doesn’t wait for him [i.e. the Moshiach] to come every single day, is a heretic in regard to the whole Torah. And this is particularly true in our time, when we shouldn’t only wait and hope for the Melech Moshiach, but actually know that we are in the days when Moshiach will come.”
MOSHIACH’S COMING WON’T CHANGE ANYTHING
(Excerpted from One in a Generation)
When Rav Berland was in South Africa during the summer of 2015, he gave a shiur where he explained that the revelation of the Moshiach wouldn’t change anything at all in the world. Until everyone did teshuvah, there simply couldn’t be a true redemption, and the real work of the Moshiach would be to bring everyone in the world back to God.
At that time, he said:
“These next six years, from 5775 to 5781 (2014-2021), are the years of redemption. These are the years when the whole of Am Yisrael will do teshuvah; even the biggest criminals and thugs are going to do teshuvah. There are no criminals in Am Yisrael, there are no wicked people in Am Yisrael. It’s all just stages of the redemption [process.] It’s all just stages in the evolution of the neshamah, in receiving the different stages of the soul. The biggest criminal is going to end up being the biggest tzaddik…
“We also need to bring the 70 nations back in repentance. The King Moshiach is going to return all the nations back to God, because God forbid that even a single goy should die! We don’t want any non-Jews to die, except for [exceptionally evil] people like Hitler, yimach shmo, but even common murderers can do teshuvah.”
REDEMPTION IS A PROCESS
The Rav was sending a clear message that redemption is a process, and that the process that will culminate in true peace, and the coming of the Jewish redeemer, is already occurring right now, however it may look externally.
Moshiach, “the son of Yishai,” is likened to a sprout for a very good reason: For many long weeks, months and even years, the seed of Moshiach lays underground, hidden from public view, apparently decaying and rotting away. Until… that first sprout of redemption finally bursts forth.
May it be speedily in our days, amen.
SUMMING IT ALL UP:
So, lots to think about here. The key points are this:
Over to you, dear readers.
Following on from Daisy’s comment on the last post, I thought I should explain a little bit about where these ideas about enormous earth changes, particularly but not exclusively in Israel, are mentioned in the Tanach.
Because as we all know from experience, if ‘prophecies’ and theories and ideas aren’t found in the Torah somewhere, that means they are false.
Midrash Dvorim Rabba 4:11:
“How will God enlarge Eretz Yisroel? When a scroll is rolled up one cannot tell its length. When it is unrolled, its size becomes evident. Just so, Eretz Yisreol is mostly mountains and hills. God will flatten it as the navi (Isaiah 40:4) prophesies:
“Every ravine will be raised and every mountain and hill lowered, gullied lands will become level and rocky places, meadows.” Then the true size of Eretz Yisrael will become evident.
Zecharia 14:10 tells us:
“The whole land will become a plain, from Geva to Rimon south of Jerusalem, and it will rise and settle in its place.”
THE PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN
I’ve been researching real geological processes, (as opposed to fake, atheist-assumption-laden geological processes about the world being billions of years old, blah blah blah), for a while now, and that’s why Hawaii has been so captivating.
It’s mamash showing the natural mechanism God will use to accomplish what’s described by the prophets.
Liquid magma is flowing under the whole of the earth’s crust. Where there are weaknesses, cracks or vents in the earth’s crust, pressure within the earth pushes the molten magma up to the surface at those spots, and then you’ll have a volcanic eruption, a Steamboat geyser, a mud volcano, something.
Changes in the earth’s pressure are registered as earth quakes. When magma is on the move under the crust, you get earthquakes. The more it’s moving, the more earthquakes and the bigger they are.
When the magma moves out from one place, especially a ‘weak spot’ like the caldera of a volcano, for example, that causes a vacuum under the earth’s crust, and unless the magma quickly flows back in, that causes the earth above that vacuum to destablise and collapse in on the unsupported space left by the magma moving somewhere else.
This has happened twice in the last few weeks in Hawaii, when first the caldera of the ‘mini volcano’ Pu’u O’o collapsed, and then beginning last week, the caldera of Kilauea itself has also collapsed.
In the meantime, the magma under the surface has flowed elsewhere – it’s filled in a bay, dried up a lake, and is now building a new promontory of brand new earth on the coast that’s currently a mile wide, and still growing.
We are seeing all this with our own two eyes, and it played out in under two weeks, in circumstances that are definitely ‘unusual’ but which no-one considers to be miraculous (yet….)
Now, how does this ‘fit’ with what the prophets have told us will happen in Israel? We know Israel is on the African / Asian rift, we know there are still volcanoes up in the Golan, we know the country has been hit with a number of big earthquakes, including the one that destroyed Tzfat a couple of hundred years’ ago.
The timings are not easy to pin-down 100%, we don’t know if what I’m about to describe will happen sooner or later as part of the era of Moshiach, but at some point in that process, some huge geological changes will happen that will ‘flatten’ the mountains in Israel, fill in the depressions in the land, and extend the land out much wider.
Very similar to what we’re seeing happening in Hawaii, just on a much grander scale.
The magma will start to move, there will be huge earthquakes, old volcanoes will roar into life, new volcanic ‘vents’ will start to spring up all over the place and as that stuff starts to flow, the earth’s crust will start to collapse in on any areas where there is too much weight ‘above’, and not enough magma ‘below’ to support it.
Mountains are a good candidate for this type of thing.
And this is all according to the laws of nature that are operating right now in Hawaii.
The only question is what could cause the earth’s core to heat up enough to send that boiling magma rising to the surface the way that it’s doing?
Spiritually, it’s toeva parades, immorality and all that other stuff Hashem hates, which is filling gehinnom to the brim – and our sources teach us that gehinnom is located within the earth, at its core. The more evil people there are in gehinnom, the hotter earth’s core becomes, the more that magma starts to rise up to the surface.
Physically, there is a probably a ‘Planet X’, or some other alignment of comets, planets and other celestial objects that is exerting a huge effect on the earth, and causing a lot of friction between the earth’s mantle and its core. That friction leads to heat, heat leads to pressure, pressure leads to earthquakes, volcanoes exploding and magma moving around all over the place.
The prophets have been telling us this is what’s going to happen when Moshiach finally comes for millennia, none of this is my idea.
Zecharia 14: 1-5 says very clearly:
“A day for God is coming… I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem for war… And God will go out and fight with those nations like the day He fought the Egyptians at the Yam Suf. His feet will stand on that day on the Mount of Olives which is just east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will split in half forming a very big rift. And half the mountain will move north and half south.
“You will fell from the ruptures in the mountains, as the rift in the mountains will reach Otzal; you will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the time of Uzziah, king of Yehuda…”
What happened in the days of Uzziah? This comes from Velikovsky:
“In the 8th century BCE, in the days of Uzziah king of Jerusalem, there occurred a devastating catastrophe called ‘ra-ash’ [this is the Hebrew word for noise]. Amos, who lived at the time of Uzziah, began to predict a cosmic upheaval two years’ before the ra-ash took place.”
Amos is arguably the darkest of all the prophecies in Tanach. Here’s a little of what Amos says:
“The words of Amos…in the days of Uzziah…two years before the earthquake:
“Hashem will roar from Zion…thus said Hashem for three transgressions of Damascus [i.e. Syria] (I have looked away), but for four I will not pardon them….
“For three transgressions of Gaza [i.e. the Palestinians] (I have looked away), but for four I will not pardon them…
“For three transgressions of Tyre [i.e. Lebanon]….but for four I will not pardon them…
“For three transgressions of Edom [i.e. xtianity, the west, Europe, Russia, America]…. But for four I will not pardon them…”
And then for Ammon – currently the kingdom of Jordan, and then for Moav, also currently the kingdom of Jordan, and then lastly:
“Thus said Hashem: For three transgressions of Judah [I have looked away], but for four I will not pardon them – for their despising the Torah of Hashem and not observing His statutes; their falsehoods that their fathers followed have corrupted them. I will send fire into Judah and it will consume the palaces of Jerusalem.”
Later on, Amos says (8:8-9):
[The land] “shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.”
We’re so used to thinking that ‘floods’ must be referring to water, but molten magma is also liquid, and in listening to the descriptions of Hawaii I’ve been struck at how often the same words usually associated with water are being used in connection with magma: magma lakes, magma rivers, places being ‘inundated’ with magma, magma fountains, magma reservoirs, magma flows.
Could it be the prophet Amos is talking about a flood of magma that will completely re-shape the contours of Israel, and not just a more standard tsunami / deluge type thing?
But the more I look into Tanach, the more I see mountains moving around and being destroyed, floods, earthquakes and people being passed through fire – and that happens even to the third that survives all the stuff that’s being prophesized to occur when Moshiach shows up.
And the more I look around, the more I see the contours of that scenario starting to take shape in the world.
Moshiach’s coming is not a simple matter, not a simple matter at all. That’s why Amos warned us (5: 18-20):
“Woe to you, who desire the day of the Lord! To what end is it for you? The day of the Lord is darkness and not light…even very dark, and no brightness in it.”
I know so many of us are going through the wringer at the moment, and that it seems so hard to keep hanging on and waiting for Moshiach to show up. But just take a look at the rivers of molten lava blackening the earth, destroying hundreds of homes, and turning ‘paradise’ into ‘hell’ in Hawaii, and ask yourself if you’re really ready for Moshiach to show up now, if that’s what it takes.
And if not, then maybe that’s why Rav Berland and others are trying to hold Moshiach back a little, so it can come a different, and hopefully sweeter way.
UPDATE: Further to George's thoughtful comments, I went to look up the full text in English translation on the Ramban's comments on the creation of the world, which you can read for yourselves HERE.
I can't see anywhere how the Ramban is saying the world is 13.8 billion years old, or even anything like that. I know Mr Schroeder 'darshened it out' that way, to fit his own beliefs about the age of the world, but nothing like that is in the original text, as far as I can see. Please, do comment and let me know if you're spotting something I'm missing....
Of all the many, many, MANY deceitful things modern science has brainwashed people with, top of the list – at least for me – is the idea that the world is 4.5 billion years old (sic).
Why is this idea so incredibly corrosive and corrupting? Because it completely skews reality, as we see it playing out in front of our eyes. The Victorian gentlemen who made all this stuff up to try and loosen the hold of the Anglican church on ‘scientific enquiry’ 150 years ago knew that anything that could do to show the world wasn’t 6,000 ‘young’ would blow the Old Testament out of the water as the literal word of God.
That was the aim. That was always the aim.
Sure, there was also a lot of geological 'evidence' that seemed to lend some support to the position of an old earth.
But only if you assumed, as Hutton, Lyell and Darwin did, that the world was in some ‘steady state’ of development that hadn’t changed for millions and billions of years.
Right now, I’m in the middle of trying to properly debunk this whole ‘theory of evolution’ in a way that even laymen can understand, but that explains minutely why the science underpinning it is false. But because we’ve all imbibed with our mothers’ milk that the world is 4.5 billion years old, we can’t grasp what is really unfolding in front of our eyes right now.
It’s comforting to think that there are only 1,500 ‘live’ volcanoes in the world right now, and that the rest all sputtered out and died hundreds of millions of years ago.
But that’s false science.
If an estimate of 4,000 volcanoes per million square kilometers on the floor of the Pacific Ocean is extrapolated for all the oceans than there are more than a million submarine (underwater) volcanoes. Perhaps as many as 75,000 of these volcanoes rise over half a mile (1 kilometer) above the ocean floor. - Submarine volcanoes, Oregon State University
Every single volcano on the planet has been live and active within the last 6,000 years. Geologically, things can and do move in the blink of an eye, not millions of years, and a case in point is what is going on in Hawaii right now.
That it’s been slowly oozing out lava for a month you probably already know. You probably also know that there is a geothermal plant that was built on Hawaii that has shifts drilled very deep down in order to access super-hot steam that in turn supplies Hawaii with 25% of it’s electricity.
The plant’s management capped the wells, removed all potentially explosive gases and poured water into the top of the shafts to try and act as a shield incase the lava reached the wells. The lava has now reached the wells – and this is completely unchartered territory as to what happens next.
Presumably, the people who built the plant assumed that they’d have a million, billion years to figure out how to deal with a lava flow coming in their direction. The USGS reassured them that they could ‘map lava flow like rivers’, so no problem building your geothermal plant there!! Go right ahead!!
The reason you find so few really informative sources of info about what’s going on at Hawaii right now is because this eruption is breaking all the rules that the scientists ‘believed’ they knew about how magma and volcano work. (For example, the 'Volcano World' website over at Oregon State hasn't posted anything up at all about Kilauea and has been utterly quiet for a month.)
It’s moving much faster than expected (by about 150 million years…). They have no idea where all this new, fast flowing magma is actually coming from, because according to their warped models of how the world works, there’s not meant to be a lot of that stuff left in modern times, just small pockets, or lakes, that occasionally cause eruptions, but then quickly settle back down again.
No huge, planet-changing events involving volcanoes can occur in anything under 150,000 million years, go back to sleep!
HOW DIFFERENT THINGS COULD BE...
How different would this picture be right now, if the scientists – and the people who hang off their every word – actually grasped that enormous geological changes were a regular feature of the world up until around 2,500 years ago, when they finally started the process of winding down?
That multiple volcanoes were exploding when Moshe took the Jews out of Egypt, and seas were being split in two, and tsunamis, earthquakes and hurricanes were devastating the planet?
That’s only 3,300 years ago.
And that’s exactly what was happening.
If the scientists – and us, too – grasped that enormous world changes can happen literally in the blink of an eye, they would be viewing the situation in Hawaii with very different eyes. They would understand that this massive, apparently never-ending flow of magma is coming from a very deep place within the earth’s core (stoked up by all the evil behavior fueling Gehinnom), and something incredible – a ‘pele’ mamash – could be about to happen.
A couple of days’ ago, the USGS mentioned in a video that the caldera in Kilauea had increased in size from three football fields, to 90 football fields (or from 14 acres to 90 acres). The caldera is the crater that’s at the top of the volcano, it’s where the lava lake sat, before it all drained away.
And this huge change didn’t take 20 million years, it took just three days.
The reason that's important is because IF the caldera collapses, the amount of rock that disappears inwards will impact the amount and the intensity of the explosion that blasts it back outwards, when the volcano explodes.
What’s more, a secondary vent has also now opened at the top of Kilauea, suggesting some sort of explosion is imminent. The worst case scenario is that the caldera will completely collapse. No-one knows exactly what that could cause, but massive tsunamis, the Big Island fracturing, parts of the Big Island ‘slumping’ into the sea – all of that stuff is possible.
I have no idea what God’s plan is, and whether all that stuff is going to happen at all, or right now.
But the point is this: In the blink of an eye, the whole topography of the world could completely change.
Hawaii could sink, other places could rise, still other places could also be submerged by a tsunami of water, some of the thousands of volcanoes on the sea floor, and elsewhere in the world, could start smoking like kilns, pouring out magma that could completely reshape the contours of the world as we know it.
These large explosive eruptions occurred in clusters over centuries, during times when a deep caldera existed at Kīlauea Volcano's summit and few lava flows were erupted. [Ed - there is now a new deep caldera forming there...]
And all this could happen tomorrow.
Not in 150 million years.
If we open our eyes, we can see the evidence all around us, in the freak weather, in the floods, in Hawaii, in the earthquakes, that massive geological changes don’t take the billions of years the ‘scientists’ tell us they do.
They can literally take a day.
There are two main reasons ‘science’ is hanging on to the idea that everything takes millions and billions of years:
And the only reason the false ‘science’ behind Darwinism was ever taken seriously to begin with is because, as we mentioned, Lyell and the other scientific men of Victorian England were trying to ‘rescue the science of geology from Moses’ – or rather, from the Anglican Church.
But Moses was right.
The Torah’s account and timescale of the creation of the world is true.
And Hawaii could be about to prove that in a truly spectacular – pele – fashion.
UPDATE: TORAH SOURCES ON HOW THE WORLD HAS ALREADY CHANGED SIX TIMES IN THE LAST 5777 YEARS
One of my readers asked me to re-post this for her son. I think now is probably as good a time as ever to do that, as it underlines the point about the awesome wisdom of the Torah, and how we'd be very foolish to believe 'science' over Moshe Rabbenu and God.
1) GOD CREATED 974 WORLDS BEFORE THIS ONE.
There were 974 generations and worlds created BEFORE our current one, in a process that lasted 2,000 years.
2) PREVIOUSLY, WHENEVER GOD DESTROYED ONE OF THESE 974 WORLDS, HE DID THAT BY OVERTURNING THE EARTH FROM THE T’HOM, I.E., FROM THE DEPTH OF THE WATER TABLE
God destroyed the previous 974 generations by flipping the earth’s crust over from the water table, completely destroying all life on the planet in an instant, and returning the world to TOHU AND BOHU, the Hebrew terms for chaos and ‘nothingness’.
(Imagine the enormous mind-boggling energy at play in 'flipping' the world over 974 times. This is why all the carbon dating stuff brings back false readings. This approach works on the 'false science' principle that the world has been steady state for billions of years, and that radioactive isotopes always decomposed in exactly the same way, and in exactly the same environment, as we currently live in.
If there was significantly more water in the world - say, from a Noah's flood - or significantly more carbon - say, from half a million volcanoes all exploding at once - that would completely throw out all these radiometric dating techniques, and render them useless for dating anything more than around 3-4,000 years ago, when the last huge global cataclysms occurred.)
3) GOD WILL CHANGE PLANET EARTH (OUR EXISTING ONE) 7 TIMES BEFORE MOSHIACH COMES
Those seven worlds are:
World 1: Adam and Eve (Year 1 in the Hebrew calendar, 5777 years ago)
Midrash (Bereishit Rabba 10:4) tells us:
Before Adam HaRishon sinned, the heavenly bodies had shorter and quicker orbits. Once man sinned, God caused the celestial orbs to travel in longer and slower circuits. Since then, the apparent circuit of the sun takes 12 months, the orbit of the moon, just under thirty days, etc
Rav Dovid Brown explains:
“In order for the solar year to have been less than 12 months, the earth would necessarily have been closer to the sun that it is now…If the earth was closer to the sun, the energy received from the sun would be greater…greater energy would result in a more powerful earth with capabilities inconceivable to us…The loss of this greater energy would result in a weaker earth and inferior beings inhabiting it.”
To put this another way, the intensity of cosmic rays bombarding planet earth DEFINITELY CHANGED, from current norms, when Adam and Eve were around.
World 2: From Adam to Enosh (Year 1 to Year 1140 in the Hebrew calendar, when Enosh died)
There was a partial flood of the world at this time, and also new mountain ranges sprang up overnight, undoubtedly due to ‘action at a distance’ effects from a passing planet-sized comet or celestial body. Again, this would dramatically affect the atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere, rendering modern radiocarbon dating measurements obsolete.
World 3: Enosh to Noah’s flood (Year 1140 - Year 1656 in the Hebrew calendar)
Sforno (Parshat Noach 8:22) explains that:
Before the mabbul (Noah’s flood), the apparent circuit of the sun was directly around the equator.
The change in the attitude of the earth after the mabbul, so that the earth faces the sun at in inclination of the axis, is the cause of the varying seasons.
Before the mabbul, the climate was perpetually warm due to the sun striking the earth directly at the equator. That environment was extraordinarily robust compared to the modern world’s, and the earth had greater energy in all its members, mineral, vegetable, animal and human.
Again, clearly the cosmic rays bombarding the planet during this period weren’t occurring at the same relatively ‘fixed’ levels and intensity observed in more modern times.
World 4: The Mabbul (Noah’s flood) (Year 1656 in the Hebrew calendar, 4121 years ago)
Geologically: A foot of the earth’s topsoil is washed away, the rest of the earth is ‘mixed’ with boiling water that contains sulphur, polluting the earth’s ground and weakening it for the rest of the world’s natural lifespan.
Also, the earth received NO ENERGY from the celestial bodies throughout this time, also severely weakening its ability to produce food and support life.
World 5 - aging, physical degeneration and illness (Beginning around the year 2000 in the Hebrew calendar)
The Midrash (in Pesikta D’Rav Kahana, 22) tells us:
“When Yitzhak was born [in 2048], God increased the light emitted by the heavenly luminaries.”
The Gemara in Tractate Chullin, 91B, also explains how the sun changed its course twice, during the lifetime of Yaacov Avinu (who was born in 2108).
And then there were other enormous upheavals too, at the time of Moses and the Israelite exodus from ancient Egypt.
These astronomical changes brought about changes in the cosmic radiation bombarding planet Earth that had direct and immediate results on how the human body aged, degenerated and became ill, from that point on - all of which is born out by the latest findings in bio-physics.
And all these events also affected the fundamental basis for the accuracy of radiocarbon dating.
The last major changes to the physical nature of the world occurred in the time of King Hezekiah (who ruled for 29 years, around Year 3200 in the Hebrew calendar).
In this particular instance, the Midrash in Esther Rabba (3:1) explains that the world ‘gained’ five hours as a result of this astronomical shift, as measured by the ancient sun-clock of Ahaz.
THE WORLD HAS CHANGED, FUNDAMENTALLY, AT LEAST SIX TIMES IN THE LAST 5777 YEARS
Again, this is why radiocarbon dating simply doesn’t work, accurately, for anything going back more than around 4,100 years.
That’s also why radiocarbon dating happily assigns dates in the millions (and even billions…) of years to organic matter that is actually only maximally 8,000 years’ old (including the Torah’s assignment of 2000 years to the 974 worlds that preceded ours), because it’s working on the twin assumptions stated at the beginning that radiocarbon decays today at the same rate it always has - which is simply not true!
To quote Immanuel Velikovsky, who painstakingly pieced together so much of the scientific evidence that clearly shows that the events described above did occur, and have left innumerable traces even today:
“Bursts of cosmic rays and of electrical discharges on an interplanetary scale would make organic life surviving the catastrophes much richer in radiocarbon.” So any radiocarbon test would date these remains as being much younger than they actually are.
At the same time: “If invasion of the terrestrial atmosphere by ‘dead’ (non-radioactive) carbon from volcanic eruptions, meteoric dust, burning oil and coal and centuries-old forests predominated the picture, than the changed balance of radioactive and radio-inert carbon would make everything in the decades following the events appear much older.”
And on Noah’s flood specifically, Velikovsky writes that: “The Deluge increased the water basin, or hydrosphere, on earth… It’s quite possible that the volume of water was more than doubled on earth in this one cataclysm.”
(See the following sources: Chagiga 13b, Midrash Bereishit Rabba 3:7, Midrash Tehillim 34:1. Zohar Bereshit 25a).
Midrash Tanchuma (Yitro 14) tells us: “When God sought to give the Torah He first offered it to all the nations other than Yisroel, but they refused it. He wanted to return the world to its dimension of water. When Yisroel accepted the Torah, the world was stabilised.”
 Pirkay d’Rabbi Eliezer (18) says:
God created seven worlds, or which his favorite is the last. Six of them to come and go, and one which is pure Shabbat.

This is an updated version of the post I first put up last June, when 'Nibiru-itis' was at its apex. There is still something up there, the Kochav Yaacov that's destined to appear at the End of Days. If we really are close to Moshiach being revealed, then celestial phenomena should be part and parcel of what we're witnessing around us.
And that's exactly what's going on, albeit hidden in plain view.
HOW COMETS REALLY WORK
After a period of pronounced scepticism about all things 'Nibiru' related, a few months back God arranged for me to find an awesome book (that was published more than 20 years’ ago…) called: ‘Mysteries of Creation’, by Rabbi Dovid Brown, which contains a whole bunch of Torah sources and material about the world’s cosmology.
All of a sudden, things started coming together a little more about where the concept of ‘Nibiru’ might actually fit in to the whole picture leading up to Moshiach and the End of Days. The bits from this book that are particularly relevant to our discussion today can be summed up as follows:
The world was only created because people would keep Torah and God’s laws. Whenever people don’t keep Torah and God’s laws, that literally destabilizes the planet.
God destroyed the previous 974 generations before our present world by flipping the earth’s crust over from the water table, completely destroying all life on the planet in an instant, and returning the world to TOHU AND BOHU.
This explains why they’ve found fossils of deep-sea creatures on the highest mountains, and also covers how the dinosaurs disappeared in an instant (plus many other ‘mysteries’ that cannot be explained by evolution or modern science).
God will ‘change’ planet earth seven times before Moshiach comes (according to the Pirkei d’Rabbi Eliezer 18) - and we have one big ‘change’ left to come before the End of Days.
Eretz Yisrael is the only ‘fixed’ land mass on the whole planet, as it’s built on the ‘even shetiyah’, or foundation stone of the whole world. That’s why Chazal call Israel ‘the strong place of the world’.
THE BODY ELECTRIC
The next piece of the puzzle is that people are ‘electrical’ beings. Over on spiritual self-help, I've written a bunch of posts explaining how our hormones, emotions, and so much of our physical functioning and impulses are controlled / initiated / stopped by minute electrical charges, often tripped-off by so-called 'space weather'. Every cell in the human body functions as a tiny battery, or electric circuit and is polarised.
For example, some research was done a few years’ back exploring why suicide rates appeared to jump notably after big solar storms (where the sun would send out solar flares), and also in areas that were very close to power lines.
For now, just tuck this piece of information in at the back of your minds, but when the atmosphere is ‘electrically charged’ in an abnormal way, the human body reacts by our emotions, hormones, and other internal electric signalling systems going haywire. This in turn can lead to extreme emotions and moods, and also physical illnesses.
ENTER SCIENTIST JAMES McCANNEY, AND A WHOLE NEW THEORY ABOUT COMETS AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Next I discovered a maverick astrophysicist called James McCanney, who basically got kicked out of his teaching position in Cornell University for discovering a whole bunch of things about the universe that NASA, and many other of the ‘powers that be’ found very disturbing.
And that’s where this post starts to get really, really interesting. I went over to McCanney’s website, bought some of his books on how the weather really works and how the solar system really functions and what comets really are, and that’s what I want to share with you in the rest of this post, God willing, as the overlap with our Jewish sources is absolutely stunning.
There is a ton of information to convey, so I will try to break it up and to make it as easy and simple to digest as possible, because this stuff is really, really important to understanding what is actually happening around us.
SOME FACTS ABOUT THE UNIVERSE NASA WON’T TELL YOU
Before we continue, you should be aware that ‘the theory of evolution’ has become such a dogma in scientific circles and the halls of academia, that despite there being not a single scrap of evidence to support it, and despite the fact that there is more and more information building up that completely disproves it, scientists in every field are bending over backwards to ‘ignore’ any data that doesn’t’ fit with their ‘evolved’ view of the world.
Darwinism gave atheists a way to negate God, and His creation of the world, in an ‘intellectually satisfying’ way, to quote Richard Dawkins. The trouble is, the facts and the data they are uncovering in all spheres of life - from human health, to geology, to astronomy - don’t ‘fit’ the Darwinist dogma that the world was formed 4.2 billion years ago, by completely random chance, and that our solar system has remained a static entity since that time.
Scientist Douglas Axe recently did a whole bunch of experiments on folded proteins - the most simple building block of ‘life’ - that completely disproved the notion that the world could have come about by random chance. The amount of time it would have taken to achieve just one ‘useful’ mutation - let alone a whole bunch of mutations that turned a protozoa into a human being - requires much more time than even the Darwinists’ 4.2 billion years…
Axe was promptly sacked from his research post, and forced to continue as an independent scientist. (He wrote a great book called Undeniable, which explains his experiments - and what they mean for the theory of evolution - very clearly and simply.)
The reason I’m telling you this is to help you to understand WHY so much of the so called ‘science’ today is plain wrong, convoluted, or even deliberately misleading the public. The data proves that God created the world, and that the world is actually a very, very young place (more on this in the next post).
The implications of that are so terrifying to all the atheists running the world, they are telling bigger and bigger lies to try to keep their atheist world-view together.
So now, how is this ‘denial of the obvious’ affecting NASA? One of the key answers to this lies in the whole subject of comets, and how NASA explains how comets are formed, and what they do in the world.
(Since I wrote this post, it's also struck me that our Sages teach that everything revolves around planet earth, while 'science' teaches everything revolves around the sun. I think this is a big part of the reason why no-one can actually correctly predict what's going on with 'Planet X' flybys and dates - they are using the wrong model.)
THE NASA VIEW OF COMETS
Simply put, NASA’s view of comets is that they are ginormous ‘dirty snowballs’ of frozen ice that basically disintegrate when they get too close to the sun (or any other massive heat source). According to NASA, comets can do very little harm to planet earth because:
1) They will melt before they get anywhere near us.
2) The only harm they could do is if they impacted earth directly, which would be such a rare occurrence, we don’t have to worry about it happening for at least another billion years…
Trouble is, the data NASA got from sending a probe up to photograph the interior of the Hale-Bopp comet a few years’ back in the late 1990s completely disproved the ‘dirty snowball’ theory. At the centre of the comet, NASA discovered a huge lump of charred rock, not impacted ice.
That meant that a comet wouldn’t gently dissolve away the nearer it got to the sun. But it also changed the whole picture about what comets really are, and what they potentially can really do to planet earth in such a fundamental way, NASA immediately tried to bury the data and then spin its implications into something more acceptable to orthodox science.
THE ‘JAMES McCANNEY’ THEORY OF WHAT COMETS REALLY ARE, AND WHAT THEY CAN REALLY DO
While all this was going on 20-30 years ago, astro-physicist James McCanney was working at Cornell University, and had access to a lot of the raw data that was streaming in to NASA at that point. McCanney had previously developed what he calls the Plasma Discharge Comet Model, which explained the following:
Our solar system acts like one huge, electrical circuit.
The Sun is a kind of enormous ‘battery’ (what McCanney terms the ‘solar capacitator’), with its negative pole at the surface of the sun, and it’s positive pole pushed far out beyond the last of the planets in our solar system. The ‘positive pole’ takes the form of a sparse ‘nebular cloud of dust and gasses’.
Protons are positively-charged sub-atomic particles. The sun generates what’s called a solar wind that’s made of an excess current of protons, and this solar wind leaves the sun, and blows outward into space. These protons are what keeps the solar ‘battery’ and circuit operating.
Every star, planet and other ‘object’ in the galaxy similarly acts as a cosmic ‘battery’, and also generates these fields around themselves.
When an object shows up in the solar system and enters the field of the ‘solar capacitor’ (and by ‘object’, I’m referring to everything from the smallest chunk of meteor to the largest planet-sized nuclei out there) - they ignite a large discharge of plasma that appears to us humans as a comet, with its flaming tail.
The nucleus of a comet is NEGATIVELY charged, which means it sucks matter, gasses and energy in towards itself, like a ginormous cosmic vacuum cleaner. The comet’s tail material is made up from the surrounding atmosphere, and comets tend to GET BIGGER and build up as they go along, and to not ‘melt away’.
Small comets ‘discharge’ the sun’s energy in a small, localised way. Large comets can ‘discharge’ the sun’s whole solar ‘battery’ power in a very short period of time.
When that happens, it can be very dangerous, because discharging the solar battery triggers violent solar storms which can directly affect the earth via our weather etc (and also, directly affect human beings’ emotions and physical health, by disrupting our own inner ‘electrical circuit’.)
We will discover more about how the earth can be severely impacted by comets from a distance, without them actually impacting the surface of the planet, in a minute.
The last things to say for now about comets is that they move in an extremely erratic and unpredictable way, because the ‘drag’ of the comet’s tail is changing all the time, depending on how much stuff the comet’s picked up, how much it’s discharged, what that ‘stuff’ in its tail actually is etc.
While this post is talking about what’s termed ‘Nibiru’, or ‘Planet X’, the truth is that there are many thousands, maybe even millions of comets out there, that could show up at any time, as God wills it to happen.
The key point to remember from this section is that the solar system is dynamically electric - and NOT electrically ‘neutral’, as NASA claims - and that comets interact with the sun, and the earth, and every other planet / moon / body out there in an ELECTRIC fashion.
HOW COMETS AFFECT THE EARTH FROM A DISTANCE
When a comet first enters our solar system, it’s orbit is massively erratic and unpredictable, as its ‘tail’ continues to gain mass and to slow it down. Eventually, one of two things will happen to the comet:
a) It’ll settle into some sort of ‘regular orbit’ around the sun
b) It’ll become ‘captured’ by a larger planet as a new moon (although it can subsequently still break free from its ‘mother planet’ in the future).
Until either of these things occur, the comet can wreak havoc on the solar system and the existing planets here.
The least likely scenario is that a comet will bash straight into the earth, which depending on its size could easily kill everything and everyone on the planet. Statistically speaking, the laws of nature decree that to be a very unlikely event (although of course, Hashem runs the world so really there aren’t any ‘laws of nature’ here.)
What we can say as believing Jews is that there is nothing in our Torah sources to suggest that Hashem is going to turn the lights off on planet earth and the whole human race for good (at least, at this point in history), so we can effectively scratch that option off the cards.
What could very well happen, though - and what HAS happened on many, many occasions beforehand - is that Hashem will use a passing comet to cause sizeable destruction and mayhem to planet earth, and to reconfigure the earth’s seasons, calendar, topography, atmosphere and many other things besides.
Remember, God ‘destroyed’ 974 worlds before ours, by overturning the earth’s mantle from the T’HOM, or water table.
Later on, from Adam and Eve on, Hashem drastically altered the seasons, atmosphere, topography, etc etc on six separate occasions, all of which are listed in Rav Dovid Brown’s excellent book, based on the midrashim and Torah sources.
The last ‘tweak’ of the earth’s climate / seasons / atmosphere / calendar etc is meant to occur concurrent with geula, and the time of Moshiach and the end of days. I.e., right around now.
NATURAL DISASTERS AND CLIMATE CHANGE PHENOMENA ASSOCIATED WITH COMETS
So, how does a near-miss with an large, planet-sized comet achieve all this stuff, according to the laws of nature as described by physicist James McCanney?
1) The sun produces far more ‘electric energy’ than light energy.
2) The earth has a huge, vertical electrical field that is sustained by the sun’s electrical power distribution system. The current of this field is stored in the earth’s ionosphere, and the air in our atmosphere is what’s called ‘dielectric material’.
3) Usually, the earth’s magnetic field protects us and buffers us from the sun’s energy. When the electrical conditions in our solar system start to change rapidly, as the result of an additional ‘body’ starting to engage the sun and increase the amount of ‘charge’ going into and out of the the ‘solar battery’, the electrical fields and currents that we’re subject to down here on planet earth start to go haywire as the sun discharges more, and greater, solar flares.
4) When something like a large comet approaches our solar system, as soon as it reaches the outer edge of the planets, the solar system’s ‘electricity’ starts to ratchet up to much higher levels.
5) More electrification = more energy in the earth’s atmosphere and the earth’s oceans = more evaporation of water = more ‘haze’ in the atmosphere. In turn, this triggers off a bunch of ‘climate change’ phenomena like:
6) Now, a word about magnetic fields: they require an electric current to generate, and the electrical current needs a ‘battery’ to power it. The ‘battery’ for the earth’s magnetic field is the nuclear fusion that’s occurring at the top of the solar atmosphere.
7) Our earth’s magnetic field is made up of many layers, some of which are ‘stable’, but most of which are variable, and highly affected by what’s occurring in the atmosphere around them.
8) The variable part of the magnetic field can be temporarily reversed, or ‘flipped’, for short periods of time as a result of massive solar storms and / or comets passing very close by to the earth.
9) Every planet / moon / comet / object in the solar system generates some sort of ‘magnetic field’ as a result of its electrical interaction with the sun, including our own moon. That’s why new moons have the biggest impact on the earth’s weather.
10) Planet earth’s magnetic field diverts the ‘solar wind’ - that current of electrically charged photons that’s constantly streaming our way from the sun - from the planet.
11) The closer a comet of size comes to the sun, the more electrical discharge starts to happen, which causes more energy in the solar atmosphere, leading to more and stronger solar flares, which in turn can affect or alter the earth’s magnetic field structure - leading to crazy weather, climate change phenomena, and even crazier people.
So far so good?
Great! Because now it’s going to get even more mind-blowing.
WHEN A LARGE COMET COMES CLOSE TO THE EARTH, IT CAN LITERALLY CHANGE EVERYTHING, INCLUDING SHIFTING THE POLES
Thus far, we’ve been describing the ‘minor’ results that can occur when a large comet enters the solar system, even if doesn’t pass so close to the earth. But when a large comet passes close to the earth, then things can start to get really quite scary.
(Take a long breath, and remember God is running the world and in charge of everything.)
There are two main problems a large, close-passing comet can cause (aside from all the freak weather, earthquakes and volcanoes described above, which is really small potatoes compared to what’s coming next):
1) It can cause the earth’s poles to permanently shift to a different location, instantly plunging those new polar regions into the deep freeze.
2) It can set off a massive ‘gravitational wave’ that would literally ripple through the earth’s mantle, or crust, causing mountain ranges to instantly spring up from the ground (or the sea…) in some areas, while plunging other land masses permanently into the ocean.
Let me quote something from James McCanney’s books:
“The only process that could cause a shift or rotation of the spin axis of the earth’s mantle is a gravitational wave set off by a large passing comet.”
A WORD ABOUT POLE ‘FLIPS’
When people talk about the ‘poles flipping’, they have a mistaken idea that the magnetic ‘charge’ associated with each pole will swap places. As mentioned, the earth’s magnetic field is layered, and the variable part of it that’s caused by electrical currents and fields HAS flipped temporarily on a number of occasions already, including in recent times, due to massive solar storms.
But the ‘permanent’ part of the magnetic field that’s associated with the magnetic iron and nickel deposits located in the earth’s crust are actually scattered all over the planet, literally, and can’t ‘flip over’ as a whole.
The earth is not a solid piece of magnetised rock: the core of the earth is molten (as attested to by our own sources as referenced by Rabbi Dovid Brown, when he talks about where Gehinnom is 'hidden' on planet earth.)
WHAT HAPPENS WITH A ‘GRAVITATIONAL WAVE’?
Remember, the comet’s nucleus (which can be literally as large, or even larger, than our own planet, in the larger comets) is negatively charged, electrically, which means it’s exerting a huge ‘sucking’ force on everything around it.
As a large comet passes close to planet earth, it starts to pull at the earth’s atmosphere, and tug on our magnetic field (I’m not describing this section in scientific language. Please see James McCanney’s books for the physics and scientific theory behind what I’m describing with some poetic license.)
If the pull from that passing comet is strong enough, it’ll trigger tidal waves across both the world’s oceans AND the earth’s mantle.
Imagine it like this: take the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner, and run it along a piece of cloth. The cloth is literally ‘lifted’ off the floor as the nozzle runs over it, and ripples, returning to a different place on the floor after the nozzle has passed over it.
THAT’S WHAT A BIG ENOUGH COMET CAN DO TO THE EARTH’S CRUST.
“The waves ripple through the [earth’s] mantle at thousands of miles per hour, as the remote object’s gravitational field drags the tidal bulge around the globe.” - James McCanney
The earth’s crust kind of ‘floats’ on top of the core underneath. It’s like a tablecloth. If a stormwind ripped through your house and pulled the table cloth off before dumping it back on, that tablecloth could easily be inside out, back-to-front, horizontal instead of vertical, bunched up in places, flattened out in others.
If the earth’s crust was sufficiently ‘moved’ by the gravitational wave, that could have the effect of moving the poles to a different part of the planet.
If that happened, the number of days per year would change, the seasons would change, and our existing calendars simply wouldn’t work any more. Whole continents could literally disappear overnight, and new ones could rise to replace them.
Remember this point from this section: If there is a PHYSICAL pole shift, the days of the year, seasons and the calendar will all be altered.
Again, God has already done this to the world since Adam and Eve was created on a number of occasions.
That’s why they found frozen mastodons in Siberia last century that still had tropical leaves and flowers intact in their throats. Before that particular pole shift, Siberia had a temperate climate.
When the poles shifted to the present position, the mastodons were ‘flash frozen’ so fast and so deeply that 3,000 years later, people were eating defrosted ‘Mastodon’ steaks in fancy cafes in France, because the meat was still fresh.
Everything you’re reading is the true, scientifically-proven way the solar system operates, and the ‘natural way’ that a comet can, could had already has affected our world. We aren’t talking about ‘supernatural’ miracles here, although of course, there really is no ‘nature’, as we already mentioned, because God is running the show 100%.
WHY ERETZ ISRAEL IS THE SAFEST PLACE IN THE WORLD
I just want to quickly mention here that according to our Torah sources, the only ‘fixed’ landmass in the world is Eretz Yisrael, which is affixed to the ‘even shetiyah’, or foundation stone of the world.
In terms of what we’re discussing and the ‘gravitational wave’ that could hit the earth’s crust as a result of a near-miss with a large comet, Eretz Yisrael is the part of the tablecloth that’s screwed down to the table. That baby isn’t going anywhere.
Also, as we’re closer to the equator, the chance of Eretz Yisrael being one of the places that would get instantly ‘deep frozen’ as a result of a pole shift is zero - and the reason I’m saying ‘zero’ instead of ‘very small’ is because our Jewish sources make it clear that Eretz Yisrael is the third of the world that would come through any planetary destruction scheduled to happen before the end of days happens, unscathed.
Of course, if people make teshuva our true tzaddikim could sweeten all this, and just being in Eretz Yisrael is no guarantee of anything, especially if you're publicly bad-mouthing the true tzaddikim etc, but it's interesting to note.
THE DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS OF THE COMET’S TAIL
The last thing to cover in this post is the destructive effects of a large comet’s tail. Again, we’re not talking about a comet directly impacting the earth here. We’re talking about what can occur when a large comet (really a planet…) passes close to the earth without hitting it.
As that negatively-charged comet nucleus roars around solar system, it starts picking up more and more ‘stuff’ which it carries along with it as its ‘tail’. That tail can contain gasses like oxygen and hydrogen, naptha (oil), and even showers of meteors which typically contain metal ore and are ‘attracted’ to the comet as a pin would be attracted to a magnet.
The larger the comet, the larger it’s negatively charged field, and the bigger the meteor rocks it can pull along with it.
Again, when we’re talking about ‘Planet X’ or Nibiru, we have to bear in mind that there are MANY ‘Nibirus’ out there, and all of them are accompanied by other objects including meteors and asteroids.
Now, depending on which planet, or celestial body, wins the electrical and gravitational tug-of-war that occurs when two large planets / comets / bodies pass too close by to each other, the following happens:
1) The ‘winner’ sucks away all of the debris / atmosphere / gasses from the other party and ends up with all that stuff kind of ‘dumped’ into its own atmosphere. That could include massive amounts of water, nafta, metal ore and I don’t know what else.
2) The ‘loser’ ends up losing a good deal, or even ALL of its debris / atmosphere / gasses etc.
That’s one way Planet Earth could be deluged by enormous amounts of water, nafta, rocks and other things that currently can't be found on earth.
But even if the nucleus of a big comet didn’t come close enough for that to happen, we could still be deluged with water and other things, if the earth passed directly through the TAIL of a comet.
Passing through a large comet’s tail would block the sun, again change the composition of the atmosphere, affect the magnetic fields, and lead to flooding all over the globe on a scale hard to imagine.
McCanney estimates that it would take approximately 40 days for the planet earth to move through a comet tail that was 20-40 million miles across (i.e., an average-to-large comet.)
If you’re thinking that ’40 days’ sounds familiar, you’re right: this is what occurred during Noah's flood, or he Mabul, as it's called in Hebrew.
TO SUM UP: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A LARGE COMET ENTERS THE SOLAR SYSTEM
Let’s conclude this monster post with a summation of what will occur, according to the natural laws of the way the solar system and our physical world truly operates, if a large comet enters our solar system, EVEN IF IT DOESN’T DIRECTLY IMPACT PLANET EARTH.
Again, the closer it comes and the bigger it is, the more problems it will potentially cause us. But even if it’s just somewhere ‘out there’ in our solar system, the increased electrical activity and solar flares can cause the following to happen:
And that’s if ‘Planet X’ doesn’t come too close, or isn’t too big, to spark off a ‘gravitational wave’ that could literally jerk the planet’s crust around so violently the poles would physically shift position, with all that entail, or if we wouldn’t pass directly through the comet’s tail.
As you can see, there’s lots to pray for!
Again, the reason you aren’t hearing about all this stuff on the news is because modern science is devoted to proving the mendacious theory of evolution correct, and likes to pretend that the world has been here for eons, and that big changes like I’ve described here only occur over billions of years.
But the truth is very different, and that truth is borne out and described in multiple places in our Torah, midrashim and other teachings.
Since I first wrote this piece last year, it's amazing how much of this list of comet-induced phenomena is happening all around us at the moment. Something is definitely out there, and it corresponds to geula and Moshiach being revealed.
The last thing to say is that our true tzaddikim can control the planetary objects, because we Jews are above the stars, and the greatest of us can literally demonstrate that.
(It's not an accident that the disgusting Ynet chose to headline their recent smear piece with: 'The Rabbi can control the sun and the moon'. That's another clue from God what's really going on here.)
So, we live in very interesting times, and if you check back on spiritualselfhelp.org HERE, you'll find a bunch of the scientific evidence that the scientific community have either overlooked, mis-classified or suppressed that backs up everything you've learnt in this post 100%.
Comets cause massive, and often instantaneous changes on planet earth. Those changes affect every area of life, including how we humans function, physically, mentally and physically.
And behind the comets stands God, and His Torah, and His true tzaddikim.
Around 15 years ago, back when I was still living in London, my husband brought home a book from the Golders Green branch of Steimatzky called ‘Galia: Messages from Heaven’. Galia was a severely disabled young woman who couldn’t speak or communicate.
At that time, ‘facilitated communication’ – a process of using a keyboard of alphabet board and a ‘facilitator’ to help severely disabled people ‘communicate’ – was just becoming all the rage, so Galia’s mother tried it – and opened up a flood of what she believed to be ‘messages from Heaven’, via Galia.
My husband was so taken with that book, he read it in one sitting. I was so taken with that book, I stayed up to 2am to read it. We bought 50 copies, and distributed it to everyone we knew.
And so, our obsession with ‘facilitated communication’ and ‘messages from Heaven’ via autistic children began.
For years, I held the messages from the autistics to be a sort of modern-day prophecy, and they impacted my life in a number of profound, and with hindsight nearly always negative ways. The autistics gave rise to my obsession with ferreting out ‘erev rav’ people in every corner of my life.
They gave rise to my shrill and judgmental insistence that family members and friends should make aliya NOW, before the end of the world occurred.
(So many people stopped responding to my emails at that stage, and who the heck can blame them?!)
The autistics stoked my paranoia about all the bad and evil things in the world; they encouraged my harshly judgmental tendencies about other Jews and other Jewish groups; and they fed my arrogant belief that only ‘true believers’ like myself who lived in Israel would make it through to geula.
THE SPELL FINALLY BREAKS
Around five years’ ago, after spending the best part of a decade waiting for the autistics ‘prophecies’ to finally materialize as promised, the spell finally started to break, and I realized that something was quite wrong with the picture.
I’d followed the path laid out by the autistics, and it had only lead to enormous relationship issues, an enormous flowering of my own bad middot, and a tendency to see the world as all bad and black, instead of the beautiful, good place that Hashem created – and that chassidut encourages us to acknowledge and uncover every single moment.
That is the path of emuna. To see the good in yourself, and in your fellow Jew, and in the world, and in God.
And the path of the autistics seemed to have led me to a place where I was doing the exact opposite.
Still, I didn’t want to cause a stir and speak out against the autistics at that point, because maybe I was wrong? And also, there were still a lot of people who held the autistics to be ‘good and holy’, and I wasn’t going to spark off a machloket for no reason.
But over the years, as the dire prophecies and predictions have continued, and as I’ve watched the formerly good and thoughtful people who peddle them dissolve into a puddle of paranoid hatred of Jews who aren’t exactly ‘like them’, I’ve increasingly come to the conclusion that the ‘messages’ the autistics are given over are coming from a bad place, and are actually akin to witch-craft.
I know that’s a strong statement.
Read on, to learn the information and halachot that I am basing it on.
'ALPHABET BOARD' OR OUIJA BOARD?
The first hint I had that maybe facilitated communication was really not a spiritually good thing for Jews to be engaging in was a couple of years’ back, when I happened to read a one-liner by someone comparing the ‘alphabet board’ used by the autistics to a Ouija board, that’s used to communicate with evil spirits.
That was kind of shocking to me at the time, so I filed the idea away until the time when I would be really ready to explore it properly.
Then a few months’ back, my husband came home from shul with one of those glossy leaflets they print out in Israel, where they publicise people’s clinical deaths stories, to try to encourage others to make teshuva.
Some are better than others, but this one happened to be about a séance a bunch of secular Israeli soldiers had conducted on their army base during the Gulf War. And what I read made my hair stand on end, because it just sounded so familiar.
THE GULF WAR SEANCE
Here’s a free translation of the relevant bits:
Sharon: “I got to the tiny room where 50 other people were waiting. There was a table, and four of my friends were around it, and they were in the middle of the séance. They ‘brought down’ the soul of the father of one of the guys sitting by the table, ‘Aryeh’, the father of Nimrod, and starting asking him questions.
“I suddenly yelled out: ‘What are my parents doing right now, in their home in Jerusalem?’ The spirit replied: ‘Your mother is talking on the telephone, and your father and brothers are watching T.V. in the salon.’ I ran to the communal telephone in the hall, and called home. He was right! I’d got my first ‘true’ answer, personally, from the séance.”
(Before we continue, I just want to point out that these disembodied spirits that were being talked to via the séances often give a lot of right answers and correct predictions and useful information, and even encouraged more mitzvah observance at the beginning of the process, to ‘hook’ people into believing in them and relying on them.)
ONE PROBLEM AFTER ANOTHER
Let’s get back to the story, where another participant, Yonah, explains that at the time the soldiers were receiving all these ‘messages’, they were being hit with one difficulty, problem and issue after another in their personal lives – which is exactly what happened to me, the whole time I was SO into the autistics:
Yoni: “This was a very difficult period of time incidents and problems – car accidents, very bad luck, everything going wrong and failing, mamash! Anyone who so much as touched a finger to the séance, anyone who participated in it, even just for a minute, found that their personal circumstances suddenly became very difficult.
“Me and Sharon got into a car crash. This was the time when one of the ‘spirits’ had been telling us all about the Treblinka death camps, during a séance that lasted for four hours. There wasn’t a single person in the room that who didn’t return to his bed in tears.”
Sharon: “During one of the séances, we ‘brought down’ the dead father of one of the guys, and he started talking to his dad and asking him all these questions that only he would really know the answer to.
“At the end of the séance, he asked his dad: ‘Is there something I can do for you, dad?’ His father replied: ‘Yes! Go and pray shacharit in base’s synagogue tomorrow morning, and say kaddish for me.’ And honestly, that’s what he did. We tried to ‘bring down’ his dead father again after that, but we weren’t successful. In the merit of the kaddish, he’d gone up a level and he’d managed to leave the Kaf HaKela.”
[The spirits that ‘talk’ via séances and facilitated communication are the ones who are ‘stuck’ in the world of chaos, due to their many, unrectified, sins. Holy, rectified souls in Gan Eden don’t contact people via Ouija boards.]
Sharon continues: “We tried to say the name of Hashem during the séance – and the glass we were using exploded!”
Yoni: “One time we got a ‘lying spirit’, who made a lot of confusion and balagan. He gave everyone there the date when he said they would die. He told one soldier: ‘You’re going to die from a bullet fired with a hand-gun’. Another one he told: ‘You’re going to get stabbed to death.’ Another one he said: ‘You’re going to die in a car accident.’ He gave 10 guys a date, and the way they would die…”
THE EVIL SPIRITS GIVE OVER A ‘TRUE’ PROPHECY
And to ‘prove’ that its words were true, this spirit also gave them a ‘prophecy’ about the exact time the Gulf War would begin – which turned out to be correct. So the poor soldiers were hooked, and believed ‘everything’s true!’ They started holding séances almost every night for a year and a half, except for Shabbat, when they couldn’t get hold of any of these evil spirits in the Kaf HaKela.
Yoni continues: “Again during this time, we received a lot of blows, one after the other. Car accidents, illnesses, injuries…”
The account continues with how finally, the Satan himself showed up to what ended up being their last séance, and that one of the participants suddenly ‘died’ during that session, and stayed dead for a whole hour while the doors to the room ‘magically’ locked themselves shut and no-one could get in or out. The forces of darkness had taken over, and it’s only the merit of the pious grandfather of the soldier who ‘died’ that enabled him to return to this world.
Needless to say, all those soldiers tried to make teshuva afterwards, and they went to visit a big kabbalist for a blessing who first refused to see them or have them enter his home, they were so deep in spiritual tumah. The Rav upbraided them for trying to summon dead spirits – before they’d even told him their story – and told them they had to go and use a mikvah ASAP, before he’d even speak to them.
Ad can. (You can find this story for yourself in the original Hebrew on the www.b-h.org.il website.)
WHAT’S THE CONNECTION WITH FC AND THE AUTISTICS?
So what does this have to do with facilitated communication and the autistics? For the answer, we need to now go over to a book called Alternative Medicine in Halacha, by Rabbi Rephoel Szmerla, which has hundreds of pages of careful notations and halachic sources.
The chapters on Kinesiology and Dowsing bring down a number of pertinent halachas that are also relevant to facilitated communication with severely mentally disabled people. The question is posed as to whether using muscle testing to determine the physical state of a person’s body or health constitutes:
NICHUSH – the prohibition against following omens
KISHUF – the prohibition against engaging in sorcery
KESIMAH – the prohibition against trying to ‘divine’ information about the future.
Here’s some of what the author has to say about this subject:
“The Torah commands: There shall not be found among you…a diviner…a follower of omens, or a sorcerer. (Devarim 18:10).
“Nichush means acting in accordance with irrational and illusory signs….Kishuf is the performance of a miraculous act…Kesimah is the art of divining, exploring the unknown by hidden means….Additionally, some have raised the concern that verbal testing may violate the commandment: You shall be wholehearted with Hashem your God (Devarim 18:13), which the Gemara interprets as prohibiting consulting fortune tellers and astrologers.”
Let’s go down to the passages on Kishuf and Kesimah, as those two are the most pertinent to our discussion here on whether FC with autistic children is actually permissible or not. Rav Szmerla continues:
“Any act that defies the laws of nature is suspect of being achieved through sorcery, and is forbidden.”
(In case you’re wondering, muscle testing doesn’t defy the laws of nature and is permitted, but with one important caveat about asking questions about the future, that we’ll cover in a moment.)
The passages on Kesimah are even more interesting. Rav Szmerla continues:
“Rambam describes kesimah as follows (Mishna Torah, Hilchot Avoda Zara 11:6):
“What is a kosem [diviner of hidden information]? It is a person who performs some act in order to empty and disconnect his mind from all things, to the point that he predicts the future and says: ‘This thing will happen; this will not happen; it is wise to act thus; beware of that.’
“Some kosems manipulate sand or stones, others screech at the ground, swaying and screaming, yet others gaze upon a metallic mirror or glass bowl. They do so until they start to envision and relate the future.”
Sefer HaChinuch (#510) explains further:
“Rambam means to say that a kosem mentally disconnects [from the physical world] and focuses all his intent and senses on the concept he wishes to know. As a result of this strong mental isolation and disconnection of the mind from all worldly things, his spirit mingles with the spiritual entities that have knowledge of near future events.”
But here’s another crucial piece of information about Kesimah:
“All Rishonim agree that kesimah prohibits only divination of the future. Uncovering hidden information from the past or present is unquestionably permitted.”
Basically, if you want to use FC to question an autistic person about themselves, and what sort of food they’d prefer, and whether they are comfortable in their new bed, or happy in their living arrangements, while that still could be problematic for a different reason (which we’ll come onto in a moment), in terms of whether you’re performing witchcraft, sorcery and divination, you probably don’t have so much to worry about.
But as soon as you use FC to try to find out information about the future, or to get ‘prophecies’ about what might be about to occur, you are 100% transgressing the very strict prohibitions against kishuf and kesimah, and you are also transgressing the prohibition against tamim tihyeh – i.e. consulting astrologers and fortune tellers.
(As a side note, this is also true of kinesiology and dowsing, too. If you use muscle testing to try to predict the future, or ask a ‘dowsing’ pendant who you should marry, you also just tripped deep up to your neck into the realm of the forces of tumah. It can be a very narrow bridge.)
THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR THE VALIDITY OF FACILITATED COMMUNICATION
The last bit of the puzzle, in terms of who is actually ‘giving over’ all these messages about the future that come from the autistics comes via a bunch of sources on Wikipedia, which you can read for yourselves HERE.
Wikipedia usually has a very anti-holistic health bent, and is written from a perspective that doesn’t believe in the spiritual realm, so I take it with a pinch of salt. Nevertheless, what I discovered about FC is that since that bright start around 25 years’ ago, when everyone started hailing it as a communication breakthrough for seriously mentally disabled individuals, it’s now being almost universally condemned as a bogus and dangerous practice.
Here's a small part of what that entry has to say:
The concept and technique of facilitated communication is one that has been increasingly debated over the last few decades with the vast majority of evidence indicating that it is not scientifically valid. However, this information has not stopped many individuals from using this technique under various circumstances and furthermore, advocating for its effectiveness.
The overwhelming majority of evidence from studies conducted on the efficacy of this technique has revealed that the likely explanation for any "positive" results—that is, anything indicating that facilitated communication has worked—can be attributed to the facilitators themselves. Be it the facilitator attributing their own beliefs and views onto the individual, or the creating a pseudo-personality for the disabled individual based on their previous encounters with them, it is clear that the facilitator is really the one doing all the communicating.
Further examination into this technique has discovered various examples in which the disabled individual using facilitated communication could correctly respond to simple questions only when the facilitator was in the room to hear the questions. This included asking the facilitator to leave and then proceeding to show the disabled individual a picture of an animal. Next, the facilitator would return to the room and be asked to help the individual answer the question: "what animal did I just show you?"
In all of these cases, the questions were answered incorrectly. However, when asked questions while the facilitator was in the room, the correct response would be made. Shockingly, this technique has also led to a series of false s***** abuse cases in which the facilitator would indicate that the disabled individual revealed that they had been abused. Unsurprisingly, these cases were later dismissed upon the discovery that these false accusations were actually a result of the facilitator fabricating these stories.
Finally, even further defining facilitated communication as a pseudoscience, the American Psychological Association (APA) issued a statement indicating that facilitated communication studies have repeatedly demonstrated that it is not a scientifically valid technique and that it is a controversial and unproved communicative procedure with no scientifically demonstrated support for its efficacy.
Organizations that oppose facilitated communication
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE ‘KESIMAH’ TO YOU?
Here’s a bit more from Wikipedia, which brings the account of a facilitator who stopped doing FC when she realized she herself was the source of all the ‘messages’ being given over:
Former facilitator Janyce Boynton, who came to reject the technique after taking part in double-blind trials, later reported that she received training from Syracuse University that took for granted that the process worked, and that the complexity of facilitation made it hard to realise that messages were coming from her expectations and not from her patients:
"When you’re facilitating, you’re so distracted by other things. You’re carrying on conversations, you’re asking and answering questions, you’re trying to look at the person to see if they’re looking at the keyboard...Your brain is so engaged that you lose sight of what’s happening with your hand...that’s what makes it feel like it’s working because the more you practice it, the more the movements feel really fluid.”.
Doesn’t this sound so very similar to how the Rambam describes how a Kosem ‘empties their mind’ by repetitive rituals as a prelude to making their predictions about the future?
TO SUM UP:
So, let’s sum up where we’ve got to with this, and then please do go and make your own minds up whether the autistics’ ‘messages’ about the future are really coming from heaven, as claimed, or some other place.
a) The ‘messages’ are actually coming from the facilitator themselves, who is consciously aware of this. If this is done consciously, then while it’s still deceptive, it’s much less of a problem halachically when it comes to the question of whether witchcraft and divination is involved (but also doesn’t say much for the quality of the information being given over.)
b) The ‘messages’ are actually coming from the facilitator themselves, but this is happening ‘unconsciously’ – which means that the facilitator may well be taking the role of a kosem, as described by the Rambam and Sefer HaChinuch, even if this is not their intention, and ‘channeling’ messages from other spiritual entities which we can generally assume are those lost souls trapped in the World of Chaos.
c) The messages are coming from some other place or force external to either the facilitator or autistic person themselves, i.e. the same forces of tumah that show up during séance sessions with Ouija boards.
2) Halacha absolutely forbids FC to be used to try to answer questions about the future, or to give over ‘messages’ or ‘prophecies’ about the future.
May God help us all to stay far away from all these forces of tumah in the world, and to only follow in the path of simplicity, emuna, and a whole-hearted belief in God’s goodness, and our true tsaddikim.
So, it was a whole week after Moshe Rabbenu had triumphantly led the Children of Israel out of Egypt, that place of harsh slavery and cruelty, as the culmination of a whole year of miraculous signs and wonders.
Massive flaming hail had destroyed so many buildings, and injured and killed countless Egyptians and their animals. In the plague of darkness, the Jews had seen 4/5 of their own countrymen pass away and been forced to bury them in secret, so the Egyptians wouldn’t see this and try to use it against the nascent Jewish people.
Then the last plague had come, the death of the firstborn, where the Jews had huddled in their homes behind their blood-daubed lintels, praying that they would be protected from the terrible scourge that was being released on their neighbors.
And after that - so quickly after that - redemption! Finally, finally, freedom! Pharoah himself gave the Jews their marching orders, and the Children of Israel emptied Egypt out of its finery and jewels, and left with their dough on their backs.
The first few days, the people were ecstatic, elated.
But then, the test returned.
Egyptian spies went back to sound the alarm that the Jews had no intention of returning, and before long in the distance, the Jews could hear the hoofbeats that signaled that Pharoah and his army were chasing after them.
And what happened at that point? Did Moshe Rabbenu sit down and sketch out the rough plan of what was going to come next? Did he explain how they were going to be saved? Did he give a public address where he told everyone to calm down and stop worrying, because this was all just part of the process?
It’s not too much of a stretch to believe that Moshe Rabbenu was also a little rattled and stressed by what was occurring. Moshe was a realist. The whole way along, he could see how difficult it would be to redeem the Jews, and what a challenge he was really up against. That’s why he turned down the job, when God first offered it to him.
But now, against all the odds, he’d managed to get the Jews out of Egypt, and was heading for the desert rendezvous where the nation would be given the Torah. It’s not too much of a stretch to believe that the encounter with Pharoah’s army at the Sea of Reeds was just as much of a surprise, and a trial, for Moshe Rabbenu as it was for everyone else.
So he had no comforting words for the wretched crowd spread before him, who thought that the tests were over already. They’d left Egypt behind, they’d left slavery behind, they were following Moshe, Hashem’s prophet, into a very uncertain and insecure future. Surely, everything would just be plain sailing from that point on?
It’s probably fair to say that none of the Jews expected another encounter with the Egyptians so soon after fleeing the country, and certainly not in the awful circumstance that they currently found themselves in: with their backs to the sea, trapped, with all their women and children around and precious little ability to fight back.
Can you imagine the despair they must have felt at that point?
They’d backed the wrong horse! They’d put all their eggs in Moshe Rabbenu’s basket, and now look what was happening to them! They were about to get mercilessly destroyed by the vengeful hordes of Pharoah.
What was the point of going through all those plagues, the terrible test of faith that was the plague of darkness, the terrible test of faith that was the Korban Pesach, just to get killed in this horrific fashion, trapped against the sea?
How could Moshe Rabbenu have led them to this place? How could God have done this to them?
The despair was overwhelming.
And then….the sea split. Even then, not at once. Even then, it still took Nachshon ben Aminadav’s bravery and emuna to wade in, when all hope was gone - I mean, what?!? You’re going to listen to Moshe Rabbenu again?!? And believe in miracles again?!? After everything that’s just happened to you?!? Are you crazy!!!
Thank God, he was crazy.
And the sea split.
And the Jewish nation escaped destruction, while the Egyptian were utterly destroyed.
To put this another way, the ‘down’ was solely to facilitate the ‘up’. God wanted the Jews to know and see that their oppressors had finally been destroyed for good, and that they were truly free people.
But until the sea split, can we imagine the test the people at the sea went through? The doubt and fear they experienced? The despair that kept them paralysed, waiting for the ‘inevitable’ to happen?
What a test.
In some ways, so many of us are still facing that test of the sea. After we’ve followed after God and his holy men for so long, and tried so hard to give Him what He wants, and sacrificed so much to finally get free of our bad middot and abiding problems.
We thought we were out, we thought we were free.
And now, the test returns even greater than before.
But soon, the sea will split.
Last week, the local Chabad shlichim in my area arranged a communal seder - for free - for 120 people. That’s an awesome achievement, by any measure. Where do they get their strength from, their energy, their ahavat Yisrael to keep doing this stuff?
It can only be from the late Lubavitcher Rebbe.
As I was thinking about this, I started to ponder how much you can tell about a person by the rabbi they follow. Rebbe Nachman teaches that you can see the ‘imprint’ of a person’s rabbi on their follower’s ‘face’ in some way, with a true student resembling their rabbi more and more.
This is certainly true when a person is doing their best to follow a true Tzaddik and holy person, and sadly, if we’re following a yucky ‘controversial’ apikorus-type rabbi, that will also rub off on us, too.
And if a person doesn’t follow any rabbi? Well, that tells its own story.
YOSHKI ALSO DIDN'T BELIEVE IN HAVING A RABBI
Yoshki, the founder of xtianity notably didn’t follow rabbis. the Talmud relates how when he tried to interrupt his teacher, Rabbi Yehoshua, in the middle of his prayers, the Rabbi gestured to him to wait until he was finished, but Yoshki got offended and stalked off.
The Talmud then recounts that Yoshki ‘set up a brick and started worshiping it’. There are different explanations for what that actually means in practice, but one very strong explanation is that this meant that Yoshki started worshipping himself as the last word, and the ultimate ‘opinion’ on every subject.
This has sadly been a xtian trait ever since. Even today, so many xtians and ex-xtians have perfected the art of slagging off our true rabbis and true Tzaddikim (who xtians like to term ‘Pharisees’, but a Pharisee was just that generation’s ‘haredi’ rabbi) as being ‘backwards’ and ‘corrupt’ and people no-one should listen to.
The argument is always the same, although 2,000 years have passed since Yoshki first came out with it. “Don’t be scared to think for yourselves!!” he used to yell at his disciples, as he encouraged them to break one Torah law after another.
“Eat rice on Pesach, you don’t have to follow the rabbis or halacha! Hardly anyone actually believes in the Shulchan Aruch, it’s not binding on any Jew!” he’d inform all his eager disciples.
But then occasionally, someone would stand up and challenge him: “Er, esteemed rabbi yoshki, that’s not what Rabbi Akiva up the road in Bnei Brak is saying….”
“Him?? That’s just Jewish replacement theology,” rabbi yoshki harrumphed. “You don’t need any rabbis! They are mostly nearly all corrupt erev rav that no-one properly xtian….er, Jewish, needs to listen to. You just need to be a good person, and stop worrying so much about all those petty laws and rules that just bring everyone down and ruin their Pesach.
“Now, let’s all go over to mine to bake our own soft matzahs for Seder - and guess what! No-one needs to wait between eating chicken and drinking a glass of milk, either! That’s another outdated ‘law’ those pathetic, Pharisee-haredim came up with when they had nothing better to do! They are teaching you the Torah of exile!
“So chicken enchiladas with cream sauce it is for Seder night! I can’t wait!!”
XTIANS HATE RABBINIC JUDAISM
King Shlomo himself taught us there is nothing new under the sun, so it’s really no surprise that xtians, and so many of the Jews who grew up in xtian environments in the West still have such a distaste for ‘rabbinic Judaism’, and are still firmly committed to ‘worshipping the brick’.
They absorbed that arrogant, completely un-Jewish outlook in galut, in exile, and sadly they are continuing to bring it into every aspect of their Yiddishkeit.
Something else xtians love (apart from being able to eat chicken enchiladas with cream sauce on Seder night) is ‘Armageddon’ type prophecies where the whole world dies a yucky, violent death - except them and the people who think the same way they do.
Sadly for me, I went to a xtian school and I read through the book of Revelations more than once. Poor me, that I had to go through that.
So this ‘Armageddon obsession’ struck me with all the recent ‘Nibiru’ stuff that was going on online with WSO and a bunch of the other ‘xtian-inspired’ sites out there. The basic idea, again perfected by xtianity and its adherents over two millennia, is this:
Come up with a terrible prophecy, the more gory and dramatic the better, where billions of people are going to die awful deaths, because they aren’t ‘good enough’ and don’t believe the same things that you do.
If you can also find a way to disparage and tarnish the reputation of our real Tzaddikim and holy rabbis while doing this, preferably by dismissing them all as erev rav, or as ‘people who are scared to think’, or people who are somehow ‘practicing another religion’, then you get extra bonus points.
Next, hype-up all this ‘end of the world’ stuff unceasingly for as long as you can keep it going.
Never mind that the prophecies don’t materialize, never mind that the dates come and go and the world keeps turning. The point is just to keep everyone scared and panicked, because then you can control them and keep dragging them down your own particular path to ‘salvation’.
The Catholic Church has been beating this same drum for two millennia, to great effect.
But it’s not the Jewish way.
Orthodox Jews have never been encouraged to seek out ‘prophecies’ and predictions of the future, and in fact we have a number of very strict laws specifically forbidding us from trying to divine what the future holds for us in tumah-dik ways.
But xtians?!? And the Greeks and Romans that inspired them?!? They just lurve their oracles, and their ‘signs’, and their fortune telling stuff. Before any big undertaking, Kings and leaders would usually nip up to the local pagan Temple, sacrifice a bull or two to some dark side force and then ask for a ‘message’ from the other side.
Today, people are still doing this sort of thing notably via séances and Ouija boards, where the messages from the evil spirits involved in all this stuff are spelled out, letter by slow letter, to the unwitting audience.
Facilitated communication from the forces of evil.
Of course, it’s only the old-fashioned Pharisee-Haredim who have a problem with dabbling in all this ultra-tumah-dik stuff. All the more ‘enlightened’ people who aren’t ‘scared to think for themselves’ have absolutely no problem with it.
THE DARK SIDE FORCES ALWAYS BEGIN BY ATTACKING THE REAL RABBIS
Is Niribu / the Star of Yaakov still out there? I think it is, yes.
But it’s impossible to really know what’s going on or when anything may or may not occur, as that information is solely in the keeping of our true Tzaddikim, like Rav Berland and Rav Dov Kook.
I know, I know, the xtian-minded folk who hate Pharisee-Haredi ‘rabbis’ won’t like that idea at all.
But it’s the truth.
Our history if full of ‘false messiahs’ who started their careers by attacking the true Tzaddikim. It began with Korach, continued with Yoshki and Shabta Tzvi, and is still thriving in the midst of all those ‘alternative’ Jewish movements who like to claim you don’t need to listen to rabbis or obey Torah laws.
Just set up your brick and worship it! Don’t let anyone else tell you what to think! You’re as good as Moshe Rabbenu, all those rabbis - and the people who are following them - are just erev rav anyway, don’t you know?
It’s the olam hafuch, the backwards, upside-down world.
May God right it speedily, and may the Jewish people finally rid ourselves of all these yucky xtian-inspired ideas about our true rabbis and Tzaddikim that are definitely doing more than anything else to keep the fires of sinat chinam burning, and to hold-up the geula.
Over Shabbat, I was pondering the vision of the Prophet Ezekiel (like you do) and wondering about how it actually felt to be those dessicated, dried-out bones brought to life.
Remember, this didn’t occur in one shot. It’s not like one second they were ancient lifeless skeletons, and the very next, wham! they’d morphed into Gal Gadot lookalikes. No, the process was extremely slow, gradual, and from the bones’ perspective, extremely frustrating.
Think about it. You’re lying there, you gave up already, you’re done already, let the world just carry on turning and leave you alone. You did your bit for humanity and now you’re dead and just hoping, finally, for a little peace and quiet.
And then all of a sudden, you realize, probably with some horror, that your sinews and veins are growing back. I mean, does that hurt? As all your bones start to knit back together, and all the interconnected muscles and cartilage starts to criss-cross everything like some highly weird reverse zombie movie, what are the bones themselves thinking?
Or maybe God was kind to them, and their brains only grew back last, so they didn’t have to sit there watching all this stuff happen to them and their neighbors, while a million questions race through their heads:
“Am I going to grow back young?”
“Am I going to grow back fat?”
“Am I going to grow back healthy in body and soul, or am I going to have to go through that agonizing death from lung cancer all over again?”
Questions, questions, and if I’ve learned one thing about authentic Yiddishkeit, it’s that for every good, satisfying answer you get, there are already plenty more questions waiting in the wings.
So being a skeleton during Ezekiel’s vision must have been pretty nerve-wracking, to put it mildly. I mean, this had never happened before. What if the whole process suddenly tailed off mid-way, and you’d end up a bunch of ugly-looking gristle with eyeballs? I mean, no-one actually told them that this was the full monty, a whole redemption / regrowth package going on.
It would be all too easy for some of those dry bones to think to themselves that Nebuchadnetzer was doing some weird radiation experiment on them, or something, and that instead of being revived for good things, it was going to be a weird, twilight existence as a half-alive, half-dead person.
Me being me, I see a lot of parallels between those bones and us, in this generation. So many people today are emotionally and spiritually ‘dead’, and a whole bunch of people actually prefer things that way, because being alive necessitates feeling things that are sometimes overwhelming, or painful, or upsetting, or disturbing, or anxiety-inducing, or often all of those things at once.
“Leave me alone, God, let me go back to sleep!” they mutter, as God desperately tries to dig them out of their mausoleums and lonely places. “I don’t want to connect to anyone any more, I don’t want to feel anything. I just want to stay here and quietly dessicate. So please, save all that geula hocus pocus for someone else, I’m busy.”
Sometimes, I feel like that myself.
But I can still see the bones are stirring, and the veins are started to pulse with new life again, at least in a few locations. But before we continue, I need to know honestly: is this process going to hurt? And am I going to come back young, thin and gorgeous or not?
Because a girl has to be prepared.
When we were reading Parshat Zachor last Shabbat, I kept wondering to myself who Amalek is today. After all, Rav Ofer HERE says that since World War II and the holocaust, when the Germans proved themselves all too worthy of the name ‘Amalek’, Am Yisrael has been continually engaged in the battle against Amalek.
Rav Ofer says it has to be that way right now, because before each time the way the world was being run spiritually changed in some massive way - like when the Torah was given, when King David was crowned King, when the Second Temple was rebuilt - the Jews first had to battle Amalek.
In a moment, I’ll bring a bit more of the really interesting evidence pulled together by the renegade genius Immanuel Velikovsky about who Amalek actually was in biblical times, but before I do that, this is what Rav Natan of Breslov has to say about Amalek (taken from THIS article on the Breslov.org website):
Reb Noson writes that Amalek corresponds to burning lust, the strife between husband and wife, between a person and his community and the hatred directed against the true tzaddikim (Likutey Halakhot, Minchah 7:20).
Given all the controversy going on at the moment against the true Tzaddikim, I found that pretty darned interesting. But there’s more:
“The Torah writes, [Amalek] smote the hindmost among you” (Deuteronomy 25:18). Our Sages teach: “[Amalek] separates the tails and throws them high (Tanchuma, Ki Taytze 10).
WE ARE ALL STILL FIGHTING AMALEK TODAY
After reading Rav Natan’s words, I can see that we really are all up to our necks still fighting Amalek today.
But now, let’s turn our attention to who Amalek actually was in the past. There’s some interesting details about the nation of Amalek that have always puzzled many people.
On the one hand, most historians have always been careful to portray ‘Amalek’ as a bunch of wild Bedouin tribesmen who were wandering in the desert when they happened to cross the path of Am Yisrael, on the way to receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai.
Yet in Parshat Balak, when the evil Bilaam is trying to curse the tents of Jacob he actually comes out with the following blessing instead: “…his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.”
Agag, as we know from the time of the prophet Samuel, was a name used by the Amalekite kings, so this Agag mentioned by Bilaam would appear to be a forerunner of the ‘Agag King of the Amalekites’ who ended up being drawn and quartered by the Prophet Samuel a few hundred years’ later.
In that same parsha, the Torah tells us about Bilaam: “And when he looked on Amalek he took up his parable and said: ‘Amalek [is] the first of the nations, but his latter end shall be that he perish forever.”
HOW DID AMALEK GET TO BE 'THE FIRST AMONGST NATIONS'?
How come the Torah is referring to this rag-tag bunch of travelling murderous Bedouin as ‘the first of the nations’? And what is the big deal for Am Yisrael to have a king that is higher than the Amalekite King Agag, if we’re talking about a bunch of itinerant desert-dwellers?
Get ready for this next piece of info, because when I read it, it completely blew me away.
CHAOTIC 'WEATHER' AND MATAN TORAH
As we know the Torah was given amidst what you’d probably call some ‘extreme weather’ activity. The whole world was in an uproar as Hashem had caused one miracle after another to happen by way of the proto-planet Venus coming in a little too close for comfort towards Planet Earth.
(I wrote a whole big post about how God has frequently used comets to fight for the Jews, which I might re-post after this goes up, BH, to give you more context and background, but it was basically another ‘Nibiru’ show, just 3,300 years ago.)
So, the whole world was in chaos, and as our sources teach us, just as the sea split for Am Yisrael in Egypt, so every other body of water in the whole world also split at the same time. Can you imagine what sort of forces were in play on the planet at that time, what sort of Heaven-sent winds and hurricanes must have been gusting about, for every body of water to split?
(As an aside, Rav Berland recently taught that the reason Yitro converted was because the water in his cup also split at that time. 3,300 years ago, everyone was going on about ‘electro-magnetic forces’ and near misses with comets causing all the weird weather, earthquakes, sea-splitting, comets showers etc. But when Yitro saw that the water in his cup also split, he said:
“This is only God’s doing!! No comet would cause the water in my teacup to split!” And he immediately decided to convert.)
So anyway, there’s the hurricane to end all hurricanes going on, there’s hundreds of volcanoes exploding all over the planet, huge tidal waves and tsunamis flooding all over the place, massive earthquakes, the whole of the world is literally upended and held above the heads of Am Yisrael before Matan Torah….
And it affected every single nation and country on the planet, not just Egypt.
AMALEK DWELLED IN WHAT WAS THE ARABIAN PENINSULA
And one of the places it happened to effect severely was the Arabian peninsula, where the Amalekites had recently been living. When the sea split by the Sea of Reeds, Arabia also got pounded by terrifying forces of nature, cities crumbled, comets fell - and the Amalekite survivors packed up and decided to try their luck in Egypt.
This was back before CNN, so everyone just thought that other places must be doing better than their neck of the woods was. The Amalekites crossed the path of Am Yisrael en route, and because they had zero fear of God and hated the Jews tremendously, they started a war with Am Yisrael just when the rest of the world was poised to convert en masse and to recognize Hashem in the world, after the terrifying experiences they’d just gone through.
After Joshua defeated them on the battle ground, the Amalekites then headed off to Egypt, as per plan A - and became the infamous Hyksos rulers of Egypt, or ‘shepherd-kings’.
According to Velikovsky,
“In the history of Egypt the most frequently mentioned names of the Hyksos kings is Apop….Agag I appears to be Apop I, and Agag II was Apop II…who reigned…some four hundred years later.”
We know who ‘Agag II’ was: he was the Amalekite king who King Shaul went to battle, but who he failed to kill, as per the instructions of Hashem, as delivered via the Prophet Samuel. Shaul let Agag live, and during that additional time he managed to father a child who would become the ancestor of Haman, the next ‘big name’ in the nation of Jew-hating Amalekites.
Velikovsky brings a lot of supporting evidence for this idea in his book ‘Ages of Chaos’ Volume I, but if Amalek went on to become the Hyksos rulers of an Egypt that was left completely ruined by the aftermath of the 10 plagues and the Exodus, that would certainly explain why Bilaam referred to them as ‘first amongst nations’.
The last bit of the puzzle, for now, is who actually got rid of the Hyksos kings after they’d ruled Egypt for 400 years, and how Amalek and the Jews fit into this picture.
Again, what you are about to read is mind-bogglingly awesome:
Egypt was liberated from the Hyksos by King Shaul and the Jewish people!
Let’s piece all the bits together, first from the Egyptian ‘historical’ side of things, and then from the Torah-true side of things. There’s a document called the Sallier Papyrus I which documents how the last Hyksos King called Apop II (Agag II) sent a humiliating demand to a native Egyptian prince called Seknenre, who ended up being arrested.
Something called the ‘Carnavon tablet’ then tells the story of how Seknenre’s son, Kamose, rebelled against the Hyksos with the help of some foreign troops. Now, Egyptian monuments never praised foreigners or outsiders, so the story of how the Hyksos was beaten is phrased very oddly by an Egyptian noble and eye-witness to the battle:
“’One’ besieged the city of Avaris” - the capital city of the Hyksos Pharoahs. “’One’ fought on the water in the canal [riverbed] of Avaris…’One’ fought in Egypt…’One’ captured Avaris.”
Who is this ‘One’ who did all these things on behalf of the native Egyptians, and finally put an end to the Hyksos rule of ancient Egypt? Let’s go over to book of Samuel, where we’ll pick up some very interesting clues:
Samuel I 15: 2-3:”Thus says the Lord of Hosts, I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he laid in wait for him on the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy everything that they have!”
So then King Shaul went and gathered: “two hundred thousand footmen, and 10,000 men from Judah” and marched off to do battle. A little later, Samuel tells us: (I 15:5) “And Shaul came to the city of Amalek, and laid in waiting in the stream.”
Again, notice how far from being impoverished Beduin, the Amalekites have a proper city of their own, and notice how at least some of the fighting being described by Samuel occurs ‘on the water, in the canal of Avaris’.
Later on, in Samuel 15:7-8, the prophet tells us that: “Shaul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until Shur, that is over against Egypt. And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive.,,”
King Shaul is the ‘one’ described in the Carnavon tablet by the Egyptian eye-witness!
There’s so much more to say about all this, and I hope to share more of how the events described in our Torah truly do appear in the annals of history in future posts.
In our upside-down world, the chronology used for the Middle East is all based on Egyptian sources, which for various reasons is wrong. So every time archaeologists discover something that is clearly referenced in Tanach, they usually tack on some guff about it their find describing something depicted in our Torah, but at the wrong period of time.
There are so many examples of where this has happened, but take a look at THIS story, about finding the remains of Sdom and Gomorrah, for a recent illustration of the problem.
All those atheist archeologists and Middle Eastern historians and Egyptologists and anthropologists are simply continuing the time-honored tradition of Amalek, albeit not always consciously, of trying to hide God’s presence in the world.
But our Torah is true! The Amalekites existed then - and went down in secular history as the Hyksos rulers of ancient Egypt - and they still exist today, as the people who deny and denigrate our true Tzaddikim and stoke strife between Jews.
And so the battle continues.
As has been going on all year, I'm going into Purim completely unprepared.... I moved house two days' ago, so even just finding my Megillot is a bit of a task (and let's not even talk about getting my oven working or figuring out the hot water.)
But Baruch Hashem, other people are a bit more organised, so here's a quick round-up of some other Purim pieces you may like to read:
hOver on www.ravberland.com, the Rav tells us about the correct mindset we should have going into Purim, HERE.
Over on www.ofererez.com, Rav Ofer tells us that before Hashem is about to make a big spiritual change in the world, the Jewish people first have to go through another test with Amalek. Read that HERE.
Over on the soulfoodie blog, you'll find this:
And then on Sasson, there's a very nice selection of poems, stories and non-fiction pieces about Purim, including:
