But before you came down here, this is what God told:
"Precious neshama: I have hidden the most sublime gifts inside of you. Your job, when you go down for your 120 year stint on planet earth, is to search for your own unique light, and to bring it out into the world. Don't forget! Worlds upon worlds depend on this!"
So then, you got sent down here, and as is the way of life, you completely forgot about the mission God had tasked you with. You got caught up in having great hair and a nice wardrobe; and then graduating from high school or university with good enough grades to move you on to the next stage of life: careers and marriage.
Maybe your light was still shining through the cracks at various stages in your life, but with the birth of your first child, or the advent of your first huge spiritual test, the light withdrew, deep, deep inside.
From the outside, it looked like it had disappeared, or been snuffed-out. But really? It was powering you through those hard times, and giving you the spiritual strength you needed to meet the challenges and tests you found yourself facing.
But now, dear neshama?
It's time to bring out your light.
The world needs it. You need it. Your husband needs it. Your kids need it. Your community needs.
I know what you're going to ask me: 'What is it? What is this 'light' you're going on about? And even if I know it's there, how do I actually find it and what do I even do with it anyway?'
Dear neshama, when God created your soul, He placed the answers to all the questions carefully inside of you. If you seek them, you will find them.
And know this: no two people have the same light. One person's light may be poetry, while another's person's light may be flowers and furnishings. Your light could be blindingly clear, or warm and soft; it could be just for you (at least initially…) or designed to illuminate a whole continent.
What I can tell you, is that no-one else has the light you have, and no-one else can build the world in that particular way. I know, the dishes need to be done, and the dental appointments need to be booked, and the washing needs to be folded.
In its own way, that's also light.
But there's far, far more to you than that. There's a far more powerful light inside of you than simply 'making supper' - and that is the light that God wants you to bring out, and shine into the lives of everyone around you.
You have it, I know you do. More importantly, you know that you have it.
And it's time to be brave, to hold God's hand, and to bring out your light.
