"The most important thing is emuna. Each individual must search for himself and strengthen his own emuna, for one can become ill and suffer from bewildering affliction only on account of having fallen from faith…Fallen faith causes bewildering afflictions, for which no remedies, prayers or ancestral merits are of any avail."
In his book called 'The Garden of Healing', Rav Arush makes the same point, in a different way:
"Every emotional illness that a person has; every emotional 'lack' that a person experiences; every emotional problem that a person develops - they all come from a lack of emuna."
I've mentioned this idea already a few times, and it's the core principle of my new book, Talk to God and Fix Your Health, (out in November sometime, BH), but it's good to repeat this idea a few times, to really cement it into place:
The ultimate reason why people get sick, both emotionally and physically, is because their souls get disconnected from G-d. The more people live the reality of G-d in their everyday lives, the healthier they'll be.
To this end there are a number of relatively simple, tried-and-tested things you can do to keep your soul healthy, and minimise the chances of getting hit with anything nasty, health-wise. And that's what I'm going to share with you this week, BH.
G-d is behind everything
While these ideas can sound incredibly radical to people used to Western medicine, and its strict separation between the body and the soul, spiritually-speaking it makes perfect sense that G-d is talking to us via our bodies and our illnesses.
Where it's relatively easy to ignore social problems, children problems, marital problems, money problems - all clues that we may need to change something in our lives, behaviour or outlook - when we get sick, we notice really fast.
Consequently, Divine providence is more clearly involved in the state of our health than in any other area of our lives. And what we've learned in the last few chapters about Deeper Needs and Energy meridians truly bears this out.
Western medicine starts to deal with 'the problem', whatever it is, once it's already manifested as a specific physical or mental health issue or illness.
Energy medicine, including acupuncture, acupressure and other forms of Tradititional Chinese Medicine, starts to deal with the problem at the 'energetic' level, when it starts to disrupt the energy flowing through the body.
But the God-based holistic health approach goes back a stage further, and starts to treat the problem at its source, in the soul. If we can get - and keep - the soul healthy, and connected to G-d, we've already solved most of the problem.
So how can we do that? I'll tell you in the next post.
