We know that the keys for rain, earning a living and children are kept by G-d. Where 'natural laws', including medical treatments and regular efforts can often work like clockwork in other areas (at least, in the non-Jewish world), in these three areas, G-d is clearly calling all the shots.
So what's left for us to do?
The first answer has to be to get G-d involved in the problem. When G-d is involved, anything can happen, even miraculously. So the first thing I suggested for her daughter and son-in-law was to visit the grave of a holy person, and then make a commitment to regularly talk to G-d for five minutes a day, to see what insights He starts sending them about why the babies haven't shown up yet.
Only once G-d is firmly in the picture, can we start to look at more 'natural' reasons for what's going on, and potential solutions.
I recently read that 40% of all pregnancies end in the first two weeks if the mother-to-be isn't producing enough progesterone. It sounded like this could be a possible physical cause of the early miscarriages. Women produce enough progesterone when they have enough energy in their Spleen meridian.
Physiologically, the fastest and most effective ways to strengthen spleen is to hold the spleen strengthening acupressure points for a couple of times a day; and also to regularly tap on the spleen points on the side of the body, just under the breasts, (see the beginning of the 5 minute Jewish Energy Routine); and lastly, to trace the spleen meridian at least once a day, using the flat of the hand.
But the Spleen meridian is also a Radiant Circuit, and it's the main energy in the body connected with happiness.
To put it another way, when we're down and depressed, our spleen energy is usually very low, which can definitely affect the amount of progesterone we're producing, as well as a whole bunch of other things.
The fastest way to get Radiant Circuit Spleen energy switched on is…gratitude. But from my own experience, I know how hard it can be to feel grateful when you're experiencing infertility.
Nevertheless, gratitude, and particularly gratitude for the infertility itself, could be a very powerful short-cut that could work across the board in the following ways:
Spiritually: Rav Arush teaches us that trying to express gratitude to G-d, even for the very difficult things He's sending us, can instantly sweeten our circumstances, and rip up any harsh decrees against us, including infertility. This happens even if we're not genuinely feeling the gratitude we're trying to express. It's definitely a case of faking it until we make it, and G-d appreciates every little effort we make to be grateful. He knows it can be really, really hard.
Emotionally: we'll start to feel more optimistic and happy, bringing up the energy in the Spleen Radiant Circuit, which in turn will make more 'happy' energy available to us.
Physically: Happiness and gratitude strengthen the Spleen meridian like nothing else, hopefully leading to increased production of progesterone, which could be the main physiological reason the miscarriages are happening.
Another thing to mention: the emotion that blocks the energy in the Spleen meridian is anger, both at the self and at others. I suggested that in her personal prayer sessions, Shelly's daughter ask G-d for some clues to see if that could be a factor in her miscarriages.
Let's be clear that this is a lot of spiritual work, and has to be approached very gently.
The worst thing in the world would be for Shelly's daughter to start beating herself up for not being grateful, or for feeling angry (understandably) that she keeps having miscarriages.
The emotion associated with Spleen is compassion, so the last thing I suggested is that Shelly's daughter should make a point of treating herself very kindly, and very gently, including seeing all the tremendous good in herself and her husband.
There's no question that infertility is a tremendous test, particularly for the woman, but like everything else, G-d is 100% in control. The most important thing is to know that we're not to blame for our difficulties having children.
G-d holds that key, and when He's ready, and when it's truly good for us, that's when He'll place it in our hands.
