Yesterday, I got a phone call late at night telling me that Rav Berland was finally coming back to Israel, and was on the plane from South Africa.
Today, I woke up to an inbox jammed with horrible articles about a bunch of Breslev rabbis who'd apparently made some very strong statements against the Rav.
Next, I found that all of these statements, including the one purported to have been made by his son, Rav Nachman Berland, had been completely falsified.
In a statement, Rav Nachman Berland said: (free translation from the Hebrew):
"The recording is forged. There is a war against us. My father is the Gadol HaDor."
At the bottom of this piece, you can hear the recording from Rav Nachman Berland for yourself (it's in hebrew.)
The picture at the top is a scanned copy of Rav Meir Shecter's complete repudiation of the statements falsely attributed to him and the other Breslev rabbis. I'm trying to arrange a more detailed translation, but the gist is that:
R Yaakov Meir Shechter cursed the people who forged his signature against the "Gaon and Tzaddik Rav Eliezer Berland Shlit"a" and "they will not be spared from heavenly judgments..."
In the meantime, I continue to be amazed at how many people who claim to be God-fearing Jews are lapping up all this stuff from the media and believing it, without even a pause. What happened to all the laws about lashon hara? What happened to corroborating 'facts' for yourself, before passing them on to others as proven information?
As you can read for yourself HERE, there has been corrupt reporting of this matter right from the start. Right from the start, the people who 'broke' the story about Rav Berland falsified crucial information about the case, including the fact that:
1) The lone witness who said he 'saw things' by climbing up the drainpipe to the Rav's 3rd floor apartment (!) was under house arrest for shooting at the house of one of the Rav's close followers at the time he was interview by Channel 2. (This is also known as 'attempted murder', as remember, bullets can kill people). - Channel 2 didn't mention this fact, even though clearly it might suggest the 'witness' wasn't as impartial (or mentally stable...) as they wanted viewers to believe.
2) The other female 'witness' interviewed by Channel 2 WAS THIS MAN'S WIFE. Again, a rather important and crucial fact that Channel 2 decided to keep from its viewers. Why?
There's a lot more to say about this, sadly, and I'm sure I'm going to have to keep saying it.
BUT HERE'S THE MAIN POINT:
So many tzaddikim, including Rav Kanievsky, Rav Dov Kook, Rav Shalom Arush, Rav David Abuchatzeira, Rav Chaim Dovid Stern, etc etc have come out declaring Rav Berland to be innocent of all these accusations.
Are they all wrong? Are they all fakers? Does Channel 2 have more 'ruach hakodesh' and spiritual clout than they do?
Rav Stern has said on more than one occasion that Rav Berland is the last test before Moshiach. If people believe their news feed over the Gedolei HaDor - it's not going to end well for them. There are so many curses piling up on the heads of the people who believe this stuff - again, coming from Gedolei HaDor - that I shudder to think what might be coming down the pipe for anyone who's spreading these lies around.
If you're talking to Hashem, and / or really connected to a Tzaddik, and / or asking God to show you what to believe, sooner or later you'll come to the truth about Rav Berland.
If you're addicted to lashon hara and scandal, and think you know better than pretty much all of the true Gedolei HaDor - then oy va voy.
The time of sitting on the fence is over.
*UPDATE* - Sephardi Posek Rav Shimon Badani Issues a Psak Halacha about speaking about Rav Berland negatively
Rav Shimon Badani issues a very sharp statement against those people who are speaking against the leader of the Shuvu Banim community, Rav Eliezer Berland.
"It's defamation (hotzei shem ra), malicious, and strictly forbidden," he said.
He continued: 'There are slanderous people, and we need to tell them 'what you're saying is malicious. It's forbidden to say these things [like this], only in a court of law. No-one can say bad things against anyone else. Just because he thinks something, why does he have the right to publicise it? It's completely lashon hara."
He continued: "To slander a talmid chacham such as this, this is showing complete contempt for Torah scholars. It's not up to each individual to make a judgement about whether someone else is 'OK' or not. This is malicious. Anyone who is doing something like this - let the court (Beit Din) decide. It's forbidden to tell it all over the place, it only should be said in court, and then the court will decide. This is a very grave [sin] (literally, forbidden thing). A person who does this will end up in Gehinnom, if they speak lashon hara against a Talmid Chacham."
You can hear the Rav Badani saying this yourself HERE - and please do check the sources for yourself!
There's so many lies flying around you have to be 100% certain of everything you're being told, even by me...
