I was thinking this about the BDS campaign that the peace ‘n love crowd have been trying to attack Israel with. The thinking is something like this: it’s not enough that they themselves don’t want to buy stuff from Israel. They are also on a mission to intimidate and scare off other people who are either neutral, or want to buy Israeli goods and services by using a bunch of intimidation tactics that the Third Reich would be proud of.
THE NAZIS PIONEERED 'BDS' TACTICS...
Because yes, the Nazis also kicked off their wholescale destruction of European Jewry with a BDS campaign against their local Jews, where the ‘good Germans’ were encouraged to stop buying things from the ‘bad Jews’, and where Jewish people and goods were labelled as such, in order to prevent the ‘master race’ from having anything to do with them.
As a student of history, whenever I see a group of people indulging in tactics that were either introduced or mastered by the Nazis, it’s pretty clear which spiritual place those people are actually coming from, even if they’re yelling very loudly about peace ‘n love, human rights and standing up for truth, etc.
So let’s recap where we’ve got to so far: the Nazis pioneered things like ‘BDS’ campaigns against Jews, and they were also very big fans of collective punishment, and frequently practiced it as a way of psychologically terrorizing the Jews (and others) into complying with their every wish.
If you were a non-Jew who was caught helping a Jew - you were also punished in awful ways.
If you were a Jewish prisoner who tried to escape, or who tried to stand up to the Nazis, you knew that tens, even hundreds of other Jews would be tortured and killed as a result.
So collective punishment was one of the most powerful psychological weapons the Nazis wielded to enforce the rule of evil of in the world, and it’s little wonder that the BDS people are taking a leaf straight out of their book.
‘Sell Israeli stuff, and we will picket and boycott your whole store!!! We will scare and intimidate your customers!!! You will be ruthlessly punished for siding with the enemy!!!’
Ahh, peace ‘n love.
So now, you may be wondering how Rav Berland fits into all this?
Again, let’s remind ourselves that according to the BDS people, you aren’t allowed to be ‘neutral’ or to have your own, different opinion about Israel. You either have to believe the way they believe, and act the way they act, and loudly and vociferously condemn Israel as the most evil place in the whole world (shhh, don’t even mention Iran and North Korea…) or you are going to be punished, collectively, for daring to disagree.
A few months’ back, I started contacting a whole bunch of ‘frum’ Jewish bloggers etc, to see if they’d help me spread the word about my new book, The Secret Diary of a Jewish Housewife. Some were friendly, some were clearly busy with other things - and a few, the ‘BDS Berlanders’, as I now like to call them - sent me messages making it clear that for as long as I was going to publicly be supporting Rav Berland, they were going to make sure I paid a big price for doing that.
I’m in good company.
These ‘BDS Berlanders’ are also going round telling people to stop buying Rav Arush’s books, and to stop voting for any public figure who visited him, and to stop listening to and respecting any of the tens of huge rabbis and kabbalists who have come out publicly supporting the Rav - or even, who have simply remained publicly ‘neutral’.
But as we just learned, you can’t be neutral around ‘BDS Berlanders’. You have to be as vociferously judgmental, spiteful, full of hate and condemnation and really just plain bonkers as they are. PEACE ‘N LOVE!!!!
Anyone who tolerates people they don’t like, or who dares to have a different (and a far more accurate….) opinion of what’s going on must be PUNISHED, and made to PAY!!!! Human rights, y’all! Justice must be done!!! Peace n’ love and tolerance must be upheld!!!!
Then, they went all quiet when I followed up. Then, I got a curt email from their husband basically telling me ‘thanks, but no thanks’. The whole thing had such a weird ring to it, that I had to go talk to God about what had just happened, and why.
Here’s what I got back: they went and checked out my website, saw the picture of Rav Berland’s book in the sidebar, and went into ‘BDS Berlander’ mode.
Dear reader, I have to admit to feeling a little gutted again. But then, God popped another insight into my head. In Rebbe Nachman’s ‘Book of Traits’, it says the following in the section entitled ‘Avoiding the Wicked’:
It is fitting and appropriate for the holy servants of God to make a shielding screen, so that every afflicting and evil person will flee from it.
The BDS Berlander crazies take one look at it, and immediately run away screaming.
God is a genius!
Once I realized that, I bumped the book back up to the very top of my sidebar, and I thanked Hashem that He’s keeping all these ‘afflicting and evil people’ away from me. Thank God, they think they’re ‘punishing’ me - and others - by their BDS Berlander activities.
But really? They’re just making my life a whole bunch easier and nicer.
You can see it in situ HERE, or you can click HERE to download the PDF.
If you know any BDS Berlanders, please send it to them (anonymously, for your own safety...) and pray that they make a lot of teshuva ASAP.
