G-d gives us the words and G-d gives us the silence. Whatever we talk to Him about, even if it's just what to make for supper, it still counts as personal prayer, and it can still create big miracles for us.
Another tip for personal prayer is to 'donate' your praying time to a particular cause or problem, either before or after you start, and then don't worry about what comes out of your mouth.
I've had months where all G-d gave me to say was 'Ein Od Milvado', but i know it still moved a lot of stuff in my life.
So take heart! Every time you murmur 'pasta or fishfingers', you are still fixing the world, you are still having a conversation with G-d, and you are still moving spiritual mountains. And that's on top of knowing what to make for supper...
